Aftermarket gauges

Will the Koso GP Style Speedometer RX-2 (http://xpostreetfighter.com/detail.aspx?ID=84) fit a 2005 VTR? Anyone know of any aftermarket gauges that will fit?

Why go aftermarket? The CBR gauges from a few years back look similar to that... and they can be fitted with minimal fuss... Plus they are a lot cheaper...

I have a CBR1000RR gauge cluster... a couple of others are using 954 or 929 gauges...

Looks nice Tweety, but I wouldn't try hitting that 11.5K redline

Nah... I have the little flashing rev light set at stock redline... And once I have the whole thing rewired with a DIY gear indicator / fuel gauge / voltage indicator I'll make a custom lexan sheet and have the redline at stock...

If there is anything on my bike that's stock... It's either on my todo list or just a mere oversight...

That'll be sweet and you should post up some pics when you're done for Salma cuz that'll beat paying $400 for aftermkt parts anyday!

I got a reply from Koso.
"Sorry for the delay in response, as for your inquiry, all our gauges are a universal application gauge.

It will fit your Honda. We've installed it personally on honda 929, 900rr, f2, f3, with no problem what so ever.

I do suggest you invest in the service manual of your bike to get the wiring because most of the gauge sensors are tapped into the stock wiring system other thatn the speedo

The speedo works off of it's own sensor.

I hope this was of some help and if you have any other tech questions please don't hesitate to email us or call us."

I've never seen those but apparently they are used quite a bit (from scooters, dirt bikes, Hornet, etc). There's a decent amount of videos on youtube.

They look kinda crazy. I think the all red doesn't look too "flashy".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHEeM...eature=related

They look to be designed to kinda mimick the gauges from the Bimota Tesi 3D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKxu7...eature=related

Tweety, that gauge mod looks great and pratically right at home in the Hawks cockpit. Well .... aside from the RPM range as mentioned heh. Still looks great though! I'd love to do a RC51 gauge swap on mine. I dig the sweeping lime green LCD bars on them

Well, they will both fit... But I dislike the fact that they have their own speed sensor... But that's just me...

Also price? $380? I got my gauge for $79+$39 (wire harness for the plug was 39...)

Let me know if you wan't to know how to hook up a CBR gauge...

Nah... To lazy to Pm...

You'll need a Speedohealer to have the speedo behave itself... And a new temp sensor otherwise it's showing overheating on idle...

Other than that it's just cut n' splice...

Gotcha. Thanks man! I like the look of it. Is that a black ABS panel you made or is that stock with the CBR cluster? Never paid enough attention to them I guess.

Heh... that's a alu sheet with bedliner...

It hides all the ugly cables that I pulled back from under the lip of the fairing to make room for the HID ballast...

Which "Speedo Healer" are you using? On ebay I can find the SH-H01 model, that the same product? I've got the 1000RR dash on the way, looks like a massive improvement over the stock one (need my dual odo's and a clock!). You use the CBRs temp sensor as well? It a direct replacement for the VTR (1998)?

Thanks!

Yes, the SH-H01 is the wire harness for the V4 speedohealer that fit's the VTR... But you also need the Speedohealer...

I'm using the temp sensor of the SP2... It works and it was a lot cheaper than the CBR part... (dunno why?)

Ahh, got the wrong part number off the listing, so thats on the way now too You also used the headlight wiring harness from the CBR as well to get the plug? Is that the large white plug I'm after?

Got the dash, nice unit!

Speedo healer shipped, just waiting on Ayers to get that harness on the way and I'll be getting the install going.

Nice wiring diagram Tweety! That would've been a PAIN without!!

Only weirdness I see so far is reseting the trip meters clears them until I turn it off then back on, then they come back up with the same values they had before. It'll be awhile before the bike moves so I can see if it registering a new number fixes that. Clock and everything else hold time / mph / kmh.

The shift light is a pleasant suprise too!

Could possibly be that the battery and ignition wires are swapped around... Check that...

There were two Br/W wires, differentiated in the diagram by only Br/W vs BR/W. I just guessed, so good chance I guessed wrong. I believe those are them, so I'll swap it around tonight. Thanks!

Cut the harness back open and double checked everything, even tested a bit. Found all the colors right, but the battery line wasn't hot. So one powers the lights, one powers the gauges visibly, and one keeps the memory on a seperate hot wire. When cutting the harness I'd forgotten to disconnect the battery and thought I'd heard a pop, but as everything seemed to work on the bike I forgot about it.

The odometer has its own 10 amp fuse, which was blown

Good to go now, thanks again!

Sorry for the stupid question, but does the used unit reset to zero miles, or do you start where the previous bike left off?

It holds whatever it had on it when the bikes owner removed it (about 10,000 miles). I wish you could set them to whatever the dash you were replacing had, but they won't let you do that for obvious reasons. My bike currently has 15,000 miles on it, so it'll be wrong now. I'll just keep note with the title of the discrepancy.

At this age of vehicle, even DOL doesn't track the miles anymore if I remember right.

Adding miles is easy, just need a signal generator... taking of miles I haven't had the need to figure out...

Tweety, do you recall the part number for the temp sender? The one I just received from Ayers, which I'd swear in the diagram is the one I want, isn't even close to fitting / has too many wires now that I look at it closely.
