REsearching airbox mods

I have researched all the posts, threads, from members i could remeber. Doing changes to the Superhawk/Firestorm from engines, airbox .
This is a quote from a post Tweety " I have the stacks in there with the K&N filter + lip... It works with an otherwise close to stock engine..."

If any member has pics of (K&N filter+lip) please provided

I don’t know if you’re asking for that exact set up, but I have made some “mods” to my airbox where I removed all the emission stuff from inside there and “relocated” it, and sealed up the holes with some plasic-welded plugs and trimmed all the extra stuff out of there to gain as many CCs in there as possible.

That’s sad… I’m terrible at entertaining. Also I did forget the last owner decided to use red thread locker on the V-stack hardware. So that’s why that he upper left screw is still in there.

After my “new” to me airbox gets here my old one is going under the knife and only will be keeping the center section where it mounts to the carbs and see if I can’t make a mold to fiber glass a custom airbox next time the bike is down or on the weekends. I’m sure it will be a long process since I’m not very skilled at glass work.

You might want to search VTR1000.org. They, on the other side of the pond, also can't leave well enough alone.

I posted a few times about some of my various airbox experiments (do a search). Here is an overview of my current/final set-up: https://www.motorcycle.com/readers-r...rm-part-1.html

Gentlemen, (Mikstr, Xeris) Your suggestions have been explored .. Mikstr , I have search all of your post on this particular subject, On this forum, and across the way- VTR1000.org
I have also reached out to Roger Ditchfield. Roger suggested different jetting, and removing/cutting the top of the airbox . Leaving a 10mm ring to retain the filter assembly.
Having access to a dyno , being my career path has come full circle (back to Motorsports(motorcycle tech)) and will be using a couple of lids to try the different configurations. I have read about.

Mikstr, Reading thru the post.. You seem to have as close to the modified VTR engine -to this 8541 engine ... May inquire of pics of your air box lid, or is the pics shown in threads your conclusion ?

Found this information ,
ERIK.S 808/27/2012
There is NOT a need to do this. The Revolution ST3 Superbike (producing 152bhp @R/Wheel) had a strengthened frame and I will give you details of that if you decide you want to do it.

You mention "custom carbs", what type are they?

Moriwaki special magnesium carbs with special internals

You mention that the stock air box is adequate for street/track days

It is adequate provided you remove the airbox lid and use K&N Filter. I will give you details of this if you wish.

We had equal length velocity stacks machined. *Would you recommend using them, or the stock velocity stacks?

Your equal length Stacks will be fine

Mine before plumbing removal. Copies, not originals.
