Japanese emissions/stuff

My broham is moving to Japan early next year. He's been told that it will take buko cash to get his chicken up to speed with all the local emissions controls, ordinance, etc.... Anybody move their SuperHawk to Japan? What did you need to do? Cost wise?

It's a 2002 Chicken
Stage 1, K&N, Two bros exhaust - Race baffle
PAIR system recently removed

Hey man,
There are VTR's on the road here so that helps. It will probably cost him a few thou to get it on the road...there's lots more info at gaijinriders.com/forum, come on over and look around.

yeah, Japan is a bit odd with emissions on both cars and bikes. virtually none of the systems are there and engine are to be replaced or updated.... quite odd, in recent years it's been closer to ca/nj/ny/euro standards though....

Also, to be totally honest he'll benefit GREATLY to buy a legit bike there and then sell it when done. transferring anything across borders is a HUGE PITA.

Now if it was some rare USDM only vehicle and he wanted/NEEDed the cool factor ok, but for a somewhat short amount of time he'll save money, time and headache by buying a ride he likes in Japan and then selling it once he's done his time there. they've got cool **** there. and with international licensing a 1000cc machine may not be legally within his reach. BUT a SUPER nice and VERY fun 400cc sportbike machine will be!!!

This advice is spot on! It's easy to get a wicked cool JDM bike, mobbed a Duc Monster 400 or something the monster 900's are plentiful and cheap too!

SCCM, is he moving here for good, or just a couple years? Where in Japan is he moving?

thetophatflash is an unknown quantity at this point
Rider licensing used to be very tough in Japan. Don't know if it still is.
