Trying to organize charity ride
Hello all. I'm interested in organizing a charity ride for disabled American veterans. I want to guage interest before I secure sponsorship. Anybody in western pennsylvania, central pennsylvania, northwestern Maryland, eastern Ohio, or northeast west Virginia are encouraged to respond. The ride would not require hawk ownership, so if you got buddies who ride other bikes, tell 'em they are welcome. If I get favorable response, I will set up with the local Honda dealer and a restuarant. Good ride followed by good food. The more the better. Rest assured, I will contact the dav to ensure the money goes where it needs to. Help out your veterans. If you enjoy your freedom. Thanks guys.

Wow Steve, pretty sad response, huh! Putting one on myself on Sept. and being the Pres. of my local Rotary Club, I'd suggest you team up with a local not for profit - Rotary, Lions, VFW, Am. Legion, etc. They could use your idea, enthusiasm and intimacy w/ your local bike community, so that together you and they can better pull of what you are trying to do. You'll also find that they have experience @ organizing, promoting, marketing and manning such an event. All the real money you can raise will come from sponsors (local businesses), not so much from the actual participants. I'd advise that you focus on a veterans organization who has respect in the community and specify them to whoever you're trying to work with as who you want to raise money for.
Good luck!

Last Thursday while riding home from a canyon ride, my wife and I were stopped at a signal on a long 2 lane stretch of Pacific Coast Highway when we saw Sheriff's Department motor officers with lights flashing escorting a large group of bicyclists and recumbent cycles. As the first Sheriff's motorcycle passed us, he announced that this was a Wounded Warrior ride. We gave them all a thumbs up as they went by. It was in the paper the next day.
I hope you can get your ride going. Good luck.
