Southeast PA - Looking for Riders

I am about 1 hour west of Philly, If anyone is in this general area (Allentown, Reading, Lancaster) post up.

I'd like to get a group ride together or even just go out for a cruise.

Looking for riders in the area.

Hey JB, I haven't gone to Ephrata but I have heard about it. I also heard about the thing in Carlisle before but always thought was more of a harley thing.

Shoot me a email about both of those and maybe we can hook up.

Where are you located?

I live in sykesville, north of Baltimore. I am planning to go to both events. The one in ephrata is more of a bike meet. I went last year and there were some real exotic bikes.
http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/ Last year the had demos on all brands, trials events, star boys doing sport bike tricks. (and a few harleys...)

Reading, PA here ..... well north of.
I will be in Carlisle again working this year .... at the Yuasa booth.
Last year I brought my gray 1988 Honda Hawk GT 650.
I got alot of comments on it.
They are trying to make it "less" of a Harley event and more of a motorcycle event. Supposedly they are adding a motocross event this year.

I'm not southeast, but I've got some great roads around Williamsport. I know most north and west of here and am learning the ones south and east of here.

There's some with potential around hazelton if anyone wants to explore.

Cool 19468

I'm in Limerick, PA. Just between King of Prussia and Pottstown.
My VTR is currently under construction but luckily I have other bikes to ride.
I head out to Ephrata, PA for first Sundays about 5-6 times a year. 55+ miles of single lane twisty roads with lots of elevation changes, handful of stops signs and traffic lights, no LEO, no traffic jams..

I'm at school at Villanova, but won't be there until the spring semester because I'm studying in Ireland for the fall semester. But please shoot me emails or PMs about rides because I'd love to hook up with all of y'all when I get back.

I get up into N. Central PA on occasion. I usually approach through the Clearfield/Dubois area. I live in S. Western PA but I have property near Bradford and try to ride up in that direction when I can. Sometimes I start out toward Bradford but I end up following my nose (gps) on a whim. I am fond of 144 out of Renovo.

I don't ride 144 much anymore. Used to be there every weekend, but it was getting beat up. That's also where I went down last summer and the last time I've been there.

Found out a good rider died in the exact same corner a few weeks ago. Kinda makes you think when you have 2 kids.

It's the first "real" corner after Da Rawk going toward Renovo.

Wow - I've only ever seen Harley's out there. I took a trip to Bradford 2 yrs ago in September. I went through Renovo onto 120W to Driftwood, 555W to Weedville, 255N to St Mary's, 219N to Wilcox, 321N to Kane and onto the Longhouse Scenic Drive before camping in Bradford at the Allegheny Reservoir. They have mini cabins that have electric heat. So sweet!

If you make a right in Wilcox on the road that goes past East Branch Dam and go clear to Rt. 146 in Clermont my camp is the next to the last house on the left before the intersection with 146. It's been in my family since '67 when I was 4. I now own the place but it has fallen into disrepair. I hate to give up the property and the taxes are pretty cheap still. In fact I'll be up there with my Father sometime this Sat. to mow.

I had a close one on 144 going south out of Renovo in an off camber decreasing radius right hander. I set up too fast and apexed too early and drifted across the double yellow. I recovered quickly but if I'd been 5 sec. later I would have met a logging truck head on going the other way. Last year a very good friend of mine was on 144 two up on his '99 VFR and double wheeled a deep pot hole. He bent both wheels but luckily was still able to continue. He sent the wheels out and they were repaired. I don't recall the place that did the repairs but they turned the work around in less than a week and you couldn't tell where the repair was on either wheel.

Was that at the top of the mountain? I know when I see the access roads to the side that it is time to slowdown, especially at the crest after the two hard 90 degree turns.

I'm trying to find a video some friends took of a pass up there.

Yeah that happened over the top starting down the other side. I was on my '99 VFR. I just set up wrong for how fast I was going. When I pushed on the RH bar to get more lean the front also pushed and I was in the other lane before I knew it. I suspect what contributed most to my front pushing was the off camber attitude of the road. That combined with speed and the early apex dumped me out of the turn before the pavement quit turning. All turned out OK though, I didn't go down, and I had no collision. My **** just grew claws for a second or two.

Cool

I'd be too wasted after Cinco de Mayo..

I do have an excellent ride route out to Ephrata, though. 60+ miles from my driveway to Ephrata, mostly single lane, lots of twisties and elevation changes, very little traffic, few stops signs and couple of traffic lights, very little LEO..

Cat, do you have turn by turn, or road by road, directions for that ride? I go to school at Villanova and have been looking for good rides. It takes me at least 30 mins to get anywhere away from traffic on the Main Line. Another good ride is Rt. 82 from Birdsboro down to Willmington Delaware.

Moving soon...

Hey guys & gals...Looks like I'm moving to the Reading area in the very near future. I'll be hitting some of you up for suggestions on good roads/rides. I don't know how soon I'll be able to get my bike down there as I'll be living in hotel at first. Looking forward to doing some exploring....

I do have turn by turn, road by road directions.. it's rather lengthy, most of the roads are single lane without road signs, hard to follow without a GPS or rider to follow along. I have not taken that ride since last November, some of the detour I took may have been opened or changed, I would have to go back ride it again to look for road conditions for myself.

I'll try and find the turn by turn directions and email to you.

Cool Upcoming Sunday

It looks like I will be able to make it to Ephrata this upcoming Sunday.

My route is 65 mile from Limerick, PA to Ephrata, all single lane, lots of twisties and elevation changes, 4 traffic lights, few more stop signs, very little LEO...

Cool

Meet at the WaWa gas station at the Limerick/Lindfield exit of Rt. 422 on Sunday morning at 8 AM for arrival in Ephrata around 9:15AM.

I'd most likely be riding two-up, so pace would be tame.
