Wrong size EBC clutch?

I recently purchased a clutch for the Superhawk. It is a EBC clutch kit, with the clutch discs, plates and springs. I opened up the box and started to soak the plates in oil. I then noticed that they looked different than the OEM part. The plates that were sold to me in this kit were a completely different size. Different thickness and different diameter (shown in pictures below). I then opened up the discs and saw that the discs are a completely different size and tooth design as well. Being this my first clutch swap on this bike, am I missing something here?

I sent this information to the guy on eBay I bought this from, and the guy was a complete A-hole, saying he was not a "mind reader" and he sent exactly what I purchased.

Has anyone else installed an EBC clutch kit before? What part number was on the kit?

Here's the two clutch plates. Superhawk on top. Quite different, wouldn't you say?

These simply will not fit without serious modification. Or, am I missing something?

Here's the kit with part #. Now, searching the internet, the part number looks to be correct. However, some part numbers have an "-AD" after the part #.
And if you look closely, there is also a part number for a Bronco CV JOINT BOOT KIT. Yeah...

Odd, yes shows to me as being the correct part number.

May be a bit out there but maybe somebody has fitted a different clutch basket?

EBC VTR1000F Superhawk Street Clutch Kit CK1290

2014-us-mc-catalog

Though does have SRK60 as an upgrade to it - which matches what you've been sent ?

Could it be a counterfit Chinese rip-off? Email EBC US with the codes on what you've got and see what they say.

I would contact ebc. That is a real slap your forehead moment when you already soaked them!

I dont see how they would go in with different anything, spines or whatever. There is no wiggle room in the clutch, kinda like fitting wrong size tires.

That mindreader on ebay has to take it back if its wrong or you can kill his ratings. You should nicely say it is not as describedand open a case. He will change his tune quickly.

The numbers on the package are correct to the vtr so I wouldn't blame the seller. I'd contact EBC like stated above.

Thanks guys.

The A-Hole eBay seller agreed to take the clutch kit back. He wants the kit returned with NO damage. Soaking half the clutch plates in oil, would you guys think this is considered damage?

I have another more important question. When I removed the clutch pack from my bike, I noticed that I only had the judder spring and NO spring seat.

I ordered a new spring seat from Partszilla. What's bothering me, is this looks like the OEM clutch. So, if nobody has been in there, why do I not have a spring seat? And yes, I am 100% certain it was not there. This is just odd.

It may be oem, but is it original. Maybe a PO replaced with oem and left the seat out? How many miles are on the bike?

That's what I was thinking too. But, how the heck did someone kill the original clutch with so few miles? Ah, nevermind. I just remembered it was a kid that was the P.O. and an adult before him. This would make sense, being the metal clutch discs were worn way past thier limit.

I'd have to add up the miles on my Veypor gauge and the stock gauges to get an exact figure, but I would make a guess at only ~21,000 miles right now.

Well, this just gets better and better. Recieved an email from Partzilla.com this morning. The spring seat (behind the judder spring) is on back order. Perfect riding weather we are having here too.

Do I really need the spring seat? I've been unknowingly running without one for several thousand miles...or for however long this clutch has been in my bike with the P.O.

Ahhhh, nuts, nevermind (as I say in frustration). Honda put it there for a reason. May as well wait and put it back together correctly.

I think I still have the complete clutch kit and associated parts, from my parts bike. Let me know if you need anything.

Oh man...total brain fart. After Rick mentioned his parts bike (which is awesome man thank you for the offer!), I realized that I have another engine just freakin' sitting right next to my bike. Looks like I'm taking the clutch apart on that one too. I know the history of this engine. Stock with 17k miles w/stock clutch. So, the spring seat should be in there.

New clutch will be here sometime tomorrow! Looks like I'll be on the road enjoying this awesome weather sooner than I thought.

So, where did you end up getting this second new clutch and what part number did you order. Or, maybe we don't care until you find that it fits.

Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I ordered another kit off eBay. Different seller. Same part number, since it's supposed to be for a Superhawk.

Got the EBC clutch kit today! Opened it up and *drum roll*....wrong clutch. It's the right part number, but wrong clutch parts AGAIN. Dissapointed that I cannot ride my bike doesn't even describe the way I'm feeling right now.

Instead of emailing EBC, I just called them and talked to one of thier techs named Ben. Very helpfull and understanding fella. Gave him some measurements of the clutches that were sent to me. Took my information and just got back to me in an email, which read:

Hi,

It seems you may have got a kit that was mislabeled. The ones in our warehouse are correct with our specs. If you can forward me a purchase receipt I’ll set up an order to send a replacement kit.

Kind regards

Ben Lappin
Yeah, TWO KITS were misslabled and I got both of them? Kinda odd, don't ya think? At least EBC is working on fixing this issue with me. So that's good news.

Maybe. But a worker having a bad day could have mislabeled a whole series of these with wrong P/N#s. (possibly other clutch kits for more bikes are involved) These are the kinds of things that can ruin a manufacturer's reputation. It takes a whole lot of 'atta boys to make up for one or two "Oh S%!ts" Your experience doesn't make me want to call up EBC if my clutch fails. But at least someone there is ready to make it right for you.

Talking with Ben, the tech from EBC, and what he is doing for me will make me come back and buy more of thier products (as long as thier products continue to be good). Customer service like this is hard to find nowadays.

They're shipping out my clutch today. The package is coming from Las Vegas, NV, so I should be able to get my bike back on the road by Saturday or Monday at the latest.

You guys are tough! EBC doesn't owe Crux a thing, they're just taking care of a customer problem with great customer service. Like Crux I'd buy from them and be confident that they'll take care of me should a problem arise! More than can be said for the ebay seller!

HRCA, how quickly you side with EBC over a VTR brother! If even one clutch is wrong then for sure they owe him. This is not the wrong color napkin, its a vital engine part that keeps him off his vehicle for many days.

If that were me it is my daily driver primary transport. Not one of us can live without that. I would be livid.

Great that they are trying to help. More than I can say for you crux by buying another one! WTH? Glutton for punishment for sure!

I'm with Joe. Crux bought a product manufactured and packaged by EBC that doesn't fit the stated application. If not EBC, then who owes crux? I mean other than the 1%'ers.

Sorry guys I heard he bought both from ebay! So not once but twice! If EBC sent out mis- marked kits that's one thing and it seems they're taking care of it as good vendors do and always have!

I could have bought these EBC clutch kits from anyone. Turns out EBC was at fault and they are decent enough to make it right.

The reason I went with EBC, was because when I researched different products, EBC had a good reputation with thier SRK kits.

I'm pissed that my motorcycle is down, but getting a clutch kit for free helps the pain a bit.

*Just venting*
Been waiting and waiting and nothing shows up. Was told that my parts were sent out to me last Wednesday. Going from Las Vegas, NV to Brookfield, WI (outskirts of Milwaukee) Should've been here by now, don't ya think?

I called EBC only to find out that the parts haven't left thier warehouse yet. They are now sending them to me by air via FedEx. Should be here by Wednesday evening at the latest. We have had FANTASTIC weather here and the bike has been down.
Thank you for fixing the issue EBC, but damnit man, get your S**T together.

Not suprising. I have ordered helmets and sprockets shipped right to the racetrack since I REALLY needed them. Same story, you call a few times to be sure, they keep saying no problem, then at the track you call and they were neve shipped.
