Whats the value of a super hawk???????
Whats the value of a super hawk???????
ok, well i've been around for little while here and with bikes for the last 16 years. are these bikes worth 4k? i dunno about you, but it seems like 3500 or 4k is a very reasonable price for a bike like these, 1000cc sportbike, i mean i can see Kawi EX500 going for the same price... it seems like there is quite a few that i see that just do not sell unless you let them go for like 2500.....WTF.....
reason for me asking is that i just purchased a Devil carbon high mount system for $845....so your saying my exhaust is worth 1/3 of my whole bike????
ok, again, well i'm moving to hawaii and im thinking should i sell the bike stock and sell the exhaust seperate, or pay like another grand and just ship the bike over there and keep it? its a 2001 with 11k miles... sorry just letting some steam off....what would you do???
thanks

I guess I will found out how much they are worth . Mine is listed locally for 4k or best offer . If I cant get at least $3500 out of it I am just going to keep it . Which wouldnt bother me a bit !
very little imo. it's a 1000cc's that gets spanked by modern 600's.
it's just one of those odd bikes that are truely a great all around bike but never sold well... well it did ok until the RC51 came along
throwing money at it is a poor investment unless you plan on enjoying it for many years. keep all your stock parts ase you'll be better off selling the bike stock & putting the 'extras' up for sale on ebay.
i've always thought the bike was cool & am happy as a clam i finally got one !
plus i like riding a bike that few have and giggle when i show them what it can do when pushed
my poor investment list:
penske rear shock
hawkrider fork valving
superbrace
hyperpro steering damper
APE's
corbin gunfighter
Leo Vince exhaust
520 conversion
R1 R/R
FactoryPro jetkit

the superhawks are a bargain to buy. i paid $3300 canadian for my 2000 with 18k. it was so cheap that i could not pass it up. the rest of the summer i found myself choosing to ride the vtr instead of my gixxer. i love the hawk!
keep it forever.
keep it forever.
Paid 3500$ for mine last summer, super clean, all stock and only 9000 Mi. Its a 98' I think it was a good deal. You could find a cheaper bike but you usually get what you pay for. I have had 2 supermoto's and a rsv Apriliia and found I like the Hawk the most.
1998-2000 around $3,000 to $3,900
2001-2005 around $4,000 to $4,900
This is all depending on miles, condition and location.
My buddy who lives in Hawaii just picked up an '02 for $5,000... nothing is cheap out there.
I'd highly consider shipping it if possible.
In a nutshell, they are all '98's since there weren't any significant upgrades. This keeps the resale value low on the later models... and just about right on the earlier one's. Seriously... how much would you pay for a '98 CBR900RR?? about $3,500 tops!

I picked up my 98 with 6000 miles on it for $3000 (only needed tires). Not much of a market here in rural Illinois. Book value was around 4 grand, banks would only lend about 3200 (80% book value). Aftermarket parts don't seem to add anything to the book values. Markets in the big cities may be better, but out in my neck of the woods with unemployment high not much is selling unless it is a steal.
I would try an ship it, you're going to want another one when you get there!! Like Inderocker said bikes there probably won't be cheap.

Seems to me that "price" is just a number. If you can afford the asking price then great, but "value" is something completely different. Bought my 98 for 3k with 8k miles and the value of wrenching/riding with my son,the personnel satisfaction of rebuilding a machine and that engine at 8000 rpm!!! PRICELESS... I love this bike.......
Like every other bike out there, there is nothing you can do to in the way of accessories or modifications to a VTR that will increase its resale value as much as the cost of the accessories or mods.
did some reasearch, and got a couple quotes from motorcycle shipping companies. anywhere between $1050-$1556 to get it from VA to HI.....makes me to start thinking of selling the exhaust and put the bike on the market stock......its clean, i usually spend 2 hours a week in the garage wiping everything down including the inside of the swingarm.....i know value and worth is different, hence the post....im moving to hawaii in late february so maybe its time to move the bike on.....i guess i can list it for like $3800 and see what happens...thanks for your guys input, i would love to keep it but it might just be easier to buy something out there on the island.
no not military, but my brother is and I have been running around the us with him on and off when he gets stationed places. his next is hawaii and we already have a house settled on. so its on in february. heres a couple pics of our new pad in Kaneohe

I wish, i missed the move with the bike. my big screen, all scuba gear, mountain bike, clothes, etc are already on the way there...i bought the bike about a week after the big load went. he just bought a new four runner and is stuck paying himself for the shipping over there for it. thanks for the input guys....only time will tell
You should check out the craigslist over there. I think the bikes will be more than you think. It might be worth it to ship it and sell it there sometime down the road if you want to later on.
i turned down $5500 for my 02 hawk, i paid $4000 for it. its still a highly desirable bike where i am from, i love the sound, i d only sale it if i could get a RC51 to replace it
but i d want it in mint condition like my hawk
