What Next?

After 5 years of fiddling with the VTR I am at an impass!

I hate to admit it, I like the bike fine as it stands now. Whilst the VTR has been in my care lots of other bikes lurked in the Man Cave from time to time but none showed the potential of the VTR ( Here in Oz they are called Storm ) so it stayed as the others went.

Most of the long timers are familiar with what I have done and as of now I intend to ride and enjoy and give my mates the *****. Old bikes shouldn't do what the Storm does eh?

Out here in Oz a viable Storm can be had for about 2K. Another 3 or 4 thrown at it and you would have something special for sure.

Any ideas as I have run out of things to do?

Ken, the only recommendations, that arise from my brain pan at this moment, are to throw light weight materials at it until it levitates by itself or look to miksters bike for inspiration.

Well, the obvious thing is to paint it yellow. Beyond that, give us the mod list so we can find where it is wanting.

Lets see. How about speed-o healer, mine was off by 9%, HRC copy frame brace (any word on that Hawk?), Cyclops LED headlight (I want to know if the pattern is as good as they advertise), radial brake and clutch masters, swing arm brace or SP2 swinger, fuel injection, carbon wheels. I could keep going.

buy another one.. buy a rough one and make a cafe/brat/offroader/track bike out of it and then you can have your cake and eat it

or a certain man in England has that spondon chassis for sale?

solve ugly front fender. Then from Japan auction Moriwaki zero full exhaust, stage1 cams (moriwaki hard to get, or webcam, kent, or ask Bill Finnegan from HPower if he does regrinding). Than play with airbox (open airbox or mikstr lidless) and try to get it working properly.
Fun guaranteed for months or years :-)


If you don´t have good rearshock - dont remember, this is real must.

Yes front fender is a worry,

Have been looking at Japanese auction sites.

Have emailed a few shock manufacturers.

I think I will go for a ride now.

An '06 Ducati ST3S would be a good start.

I appreciate everyone's comments/ suggestions.

I think that my bike is now at a level that is more than acceptable and will continue to ride and enjoy it as it is.

I have come to the conclusion that it is too original and good to mess with now.

Of course there will be some more fettling however I am seriously thinking about getting a rough VTR and building something special like Crux and the mad guy from the Netherlands.

I want an Alloy tank and tail, single seater of course with a hot motor, single sided swinger and USD forks and big brakes.

I am currently looking for the cheapest VTR I can find that is straight in the frame with a running engine to start this project of.

Might take some time and rest assured that when it starts there will be plenty of pics.

I plan to learn how to use photoshop to get the picture clear in my head.

Looking forward to it , but don't hold your breath.

I am currently scouring the net for hard to get parts as we speak.

Carbon fibber wheels are un-explainable. I switched up w a friend who has a well sorted Tuono last year. Unreal. You have to re-learn turn in (so to speak).That bike made my Multi feel slow to turn... and it ain't! Very spendy tough.

Aluminium oxynitride (transparent aluminum) fuel tank - then the heavy fuel sender and gauge can be ditched.

What?!? Why aren't tanks like this stock? Think of the cost savings to be realized by ditching the fuel sender & guage.

I think this whole thread is a belated April fool's joke. It was post #14, "I think that my bike is now at a level that is more than acceptable and will continue to ride and enjoy it as it is." that gave it away. OCMD.

Just have to be patient, got mine for less than half price and they were like new...

Bike now feels like riding a 200cc trail bike (with a mondo engine of course)....

  1. Have the header cleaned and ceramic coated, getting rid of that dogey tape...lol
  2. Consider a lower? Appearance only, but it can make a visual difference many like.
  3. It gets a bit hot in Oz, how about a custom oil cooler and lines?
    Light weight flywheel if not already done (I cant remember)
    FactoryPro shift kit if not already done?
  4. Silicone coolant hoses?
