well as you might know i just picked up a 2000 yellow hawk 2 days ago, well i just ordered a set of tires, i hope they will be in tomorrow. i went with the pilot road 3s, they look kinda funny but this summer is hopfully going to be a 10k summer, last was only 2 due to medical shat, but this year is going to be my best yet in the last 6. so i needed a good ST tire.
the bike is going in for surgery tonight ie front to back top to bottom everything in working order going through. i will take pics along the way, things on the the list include but not limited to, oil, coolant, brake, clutch, fluids. clean lube adjust chain, fork fluid only for now, going to ride it then race tech or somthing on the lines later. clean carb tune to specs according to thread on this forum. TPS with pics while carbs are out. R/R check prob replace CCT inspection maybe replace with from 05, I like the auto adjust myself. valve inspect and new plugs.... that might take me longer than just tonight but it will be out this weekend, even if i have to ride at 20 degrees did i miss anything? let me know what else.


oh yea and air filter.

well got going on it,
step 1 reg/ insurance... so happy went from 200/month to 63/month from 919 to hawk. that was worth it right there
step 2 clean shop and mount the bike

oh and washed it too, looks better now

does any one know if that is a full exhaust or just slip ons? im not sure and have not researched it alot to know.

I have the same pipes read to go on mine they start at the joint below the brake pedal, if thats any help.

well got my bike back to running condtion so i could finally take it for a test drive.so far i have done:
-new tires pilot road 3
-new clutch and brake fluid flush- SS line are in order but not right now
-DIY CCT done
-TPS set to 495 was at 900ish
-cleaned carbs i was amazed that it even ran b4 emulsion tubes were nasty. down side was it has a DJ kit in it, but seems to pull ok for now.
-carb sync and final tune
-lubed throttle cable/ linkage so smooth now
-test drove while it was nice out (suppose to snow again tonight )
tonight im doing a oil and filter change and coolant. fix a few cracked pieces of plastic then start saving some money for the cool mods

yep, has anyone tryed the one thats sold on ebay? looks to be plug and play with fins for $60 would be nice if it works

Avoid plug-n-play. Searching will find this out but in a nutshel:

The Yamaha r1/r6 uses a MOFSET system and is pretty easy to wire in. I'm not quite sure what it means as whenever it was explained to me it was too much electronics stuff at once. But basically, it's less likely to wear out and much less prone to overcharging the battery.

The new plug-n-play is slightly better than the old as it has fins, but the internals are still the old technology ..scr or something like that... and still suffers from the same issues.

If you have bone stock forks you will most definitely want to at least raise the fluid level or use thicker oil to prevent harsh bottoming at the exact wrong times. You can throw some sonic springs in to really up performance before going with the full gold valve which is a bit more involved. You wont really know the bike til you do something to tame the fork. Obviously the heavier you are/harder you ride the worse it is.

yea we just got 6+ inches of snow so im going to pull the forks this weekend i think, change the oils no money now for springs.

So for me I think adding an inch of oil to the stock level helped handling til I got springs
