Vacationing with the VTR

Spent the last week riding around Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada, on my VTR.

Still going strong after 12 seasons and 58,000 miles. Here's a short video clip.

Well that's terrifying. I don't mind going up roads like that, but I hate going down them.

I was thinking the same thing as Crashrat. That road looked steep as hell. Beautiful scenery by the way. How far would you ride on a typical day?

Around 250 miles per day. Lots of stopping to look at the scenery and take pictures.

Were you in Cochrane 2-3 weeks ago, I think it was a Saturday? I saw a Yellow Superhawk cruising by extra foods. It was the first hawk I have ever seen on the street besides my own.

What was the gas situation like up through the Jasper area?

My dad and I where looking at heading that way as a possible trip idea but it looked like gas stations may be pretty sparse at times.

You will have no problems with gas through the Jasper area. Between Banff and Jasper there is a junction called Saskatchewan crossing that sells gas. Its generally quite expensive and I wouldn't want to fill a car there but for the 3 gallons in a motorcycle its worth paying. Hinton on the east side has gas, Jasper has gas, Valemount west of Jasper has gas. No fuel problems.

How cold was it? Looks like you were dang close to the snow line there my friend. Mind giving us an idea of what you packed? I hope I'm hiding it quite well because in reality I am green with envy.

Not 2 to 3 weeks ago. First time out touring around down south on the VTR was last week.

Time to bust loose again at the end of this month. Gonna be taking another bike, not sure which one just yet.

That's right, no real worries about finding fuel. Traveling west from Calgary on Highway 1 to Lake Louise then taking Highway 93 North the next gas is at the Saskatchewan River Crossing 50 miles away. Be aware that gas station isn't open 24 hours.

The next gas is at Jasper 90 miles away. As we know, if we ride our VTR's at a brisk pace, the low fuel light will be on at about the 90 mile mark.

It was rather cool in the early morning, about 45 F. By mid-morning it was about 55 to 60 F. My sweetie and I took our Joe Rocket jackets which kept us warm enough.

We both had small back packs that carried our essentials. A luggage carrier of some kind would have been better.

I'm gonna research what's available for a carrier that attaches behind the seat.

Amazing video. You need a givi rack. This is not a great pic but you get the idea. 2 helmets fit easily & 2 more cases pop on the sides. Totally water sealed (you could drop it in a lake)

That's exactly what's needed, got one on order for my '08 'Busa, same as this one (except I lost the stock canisters, replaced with a Yosh R-77 4-into-1 system).
