tough decision....

This is my first post. Been reading for the past 12 months. Question for all the bikes Gurus: Thinking of changing the Super Hawk for a Suzuki SV...
Not that I don't like the Hawk, but licencing here in Quebec is changing and the Hawk is classed Super Sport, hence more expensive. Would like to know your opinions comparing the Hawk and the SV.

I think the SV is a little lighter, and the suspension is a little bit better stock.

I am assuming you are talking about a 1000 still?
I have owned a sv 650 and the suspension SUCKS.
I know it is different on the 1k, so I can only comment on the smaller but I would stick with the SH if at all possible. The only advantage to the sv is the FI.

Which SV? I think there have been four of them. The SV1000S has a 3/4 fairing and clipons like the VTR. I'd be surprised if it had a lower insurance rate.

The SV1000 (no "S") had higher tube bars and no plastic. At least here in the U.S. it was '03 model year only.

Same difference between the SV650 and SV650S.

The SV I am looking at is the SV1000S and believe it or not, I have checked the site and the SV is not considered sport where as the Hawk is. The only reason I can see for the SuperHawk being considered sport is the larger fairing. I was looking for opinions because I would assume the ride of both bikes to be very similar. Thanks for any input.

I had the chance to ride both the SV1000 and the VTR side by side.

The SV felt like a truck. Still had the 3,000 rpm stumble.
Felt bigger, higher, and heavier.
SV takes a lot more steering input.
The seat was a lot more comfy on the VTR.
Seating position is more relaxed on the VTR.
VTR wheelies way easier.
SV's ugly box frame and fairing look stupid to me.
And that SV tail section????? Come on now.

Yes, the VTR has carbs, but it runs like a dream.

Maybe the suspension isn't good for track. But I still haven't taken it to the track.

VTR wins hands down in my book.
So I bought one instead of an SV.

But everybody has their own opinion.
I'm sure you have your own.

Use it.

Thanks for the inputs. Did a little work on my bike yesterday: bled the brakes, had a few beer and yeah, I love my bike! But there has been a lot of talk in Québec about the registration laws for sport bikes and which bikes will be considered sport. The price is suppose to increase every year for the next 4 years. This year, a sport bike is already $250 more than a non-sport bike. So, I could be looking at a bill of over $1000 just to plate my bike. It's just not bloody fare, especially when you see that bikes like the SV1000, KTM SuperDuke or the FZ1 are not considered super sport.
Sat on the SV this morning, although I never had the chance to ride it. The biggest difference between the two I can see so far is the SV doesn't seem to have the same kind of character. If I do sell the VTR, it will be for financial reasons only. Anybody here from Québec??? If so, what have you heard about the increase? There is so much in the air at this time....could continue to rant but won't...Thanks!!!

What's the deal in Quebec?
You pay that much for your plate, and you still need to by insurance?

Or does that include insurance?

If it does, you've still got a deal.
Last year I paid 1,500 bucks to insure the VTR.

This year, I pay 1,800 buck but it included my wifes bike.

You're still way ahead of the game.
Here we pay something like $47.00 for the plate and lots to insure.

So you are saying you are complaining about 650$ and the possibility of it doing up to 1000$ ???

Dangit I got billed 1300$ last year to get mine on the road here and that's with minimal mandatory insurance... The bill for this year (I have it in hand) is 1429$...

Dangit... I forgot.. then there is a 49$ road tax... so it comes out to 1478$...

And I consider myself lucky that the VTR is classed as sportstouring around here... a full supersports bike is about twice what I pay...

Seriously... I was considering buying an older ducati... It cost more to insure it than to buy it... It made more sense economicly to have it uninsured and buy another one after crashing it...
