TMBmotorsports forkbrace????

Well Im thinking about producing a limited number of fork braces.

Im still In the design phase but Ill have pics up soon.

Price would be 110$ shipped in Cont. US. 120$ shipped elsewhere.

So what do you people think? Are you interested?

Needs some FEA testing done to verify your design results? I can help.

what function is served by the fork brace? I never experienced anything askew until I put SS lines and galpher pads on, but now it shudders under hard braking. Is this a function of brake pads, or would a fork brace remedy this issue?

Consider that more focused racer replicas use USD forks, copied from racing bikes. And that our bikes were built to a 'price point'. Then compare tube diameter for like bikes (weight, displacement, intended use) and you'll observe that the 'Hawk is a bit noodly up front. The brace is intended to reinforce the tubes for more rigidity, which should result in less flex which has multiple benefits. Less stiction in the shocks, more feel in the steering etc.

A fork brace will help reduce fork flex, especially under heavy braking. Will help eliminate shudder/chatter.....

OK thanks. I put one on my dual sport and could notice no differences on road in terms of high speed stability, as in wobble tendency. Increasing preload via frok spacers did help considerably however. To get the rest out, I guess it means 500 big ones for a steering stabilizer, Ouch!!!

I think the superhawk could benefit from a SS after shims and RT springs since it is sitting up so much higher.

I don't mind getting a fork brace if it eliminates the chaddering which is somewhat disconcerting when you need to back er down quickly.

thanks, nathan

Where a fork brace really works is in aggressive changes of direction. When you take the heayy gyroscope of the front wheel and tire and change it's direction by twisting hard at the bars, one fork leg bends forward and the other one bends backward, due to the gyroscopic torque.

A fork brace ties the two fork legs together, so they can't do that, making the steering much more precise. It is a change that you will notice immediately with aggressive riding.

The brace really has no effect on braking, because both fork legs bend together in the same direction.

DO THIS.

Have someone stand in front of the bike while clamping their legs around the front wheel.

Now you, on the bike, grab your handlebars and try to turn in either direction.

Whats that? you can turn the handlebars but the wheel doesnt move?

Thats the same principal that happens at speed, except the person up front is the gyroscopic force and its stronger than your friend.

Its just the design of the cartrage forks that allows this.

Ill draw up my design when I get back from the water jet place to have more cct's cut.

i really like my superbrace. if your going to reinvent the wheel i'd look at theirs. easy 2 piece design, curved to clear the fender & stay stout enough to be effective, predrilled / tap holes for optional tube deflectors...

Is it something a complete mechanical noob could install? IE, pick a spot on the forks that looks like it won't hit anything and bolt it on?

Conflicting information. that's what you get for listening to a truck driver, esp one with a peterbilt

Seriously, thinking about it though, grabby brakes might be held in check by a fork brace???????

That's what it did to my bike. Not sure what it will do to yours.

If you think it will help with braking, go for it!

Looks good! You might want to check if you need to clearance the final product a little to clear the fender.

If you want to check out the competition here is superbrace's:

I made a full size wooden mockup, But then I accidentally smashed it.

It will be 1/2 inch 6061 T6 aluminum, and there is clearance for the fender.
