Regulator Rectifier for Honda VTR1000F A AC Super Hawk 1998 2000 | eBay

Regulator Rectifier for Honda VTR1000F Superhawk VTR 1000 F 1998 2005 | eBay

The second one seems to have the bigger heat sink so should go with that unless someone has used it and knows its crap!

Also thinking about installing a small LED Voltmeter to keep an eye on things, just wired and fused to the battery.

honestly there is really no point in paying anything for those are they are still SHUNT based systems. the only benefit to those is that they are " plug-n-play" meaning they will plug right into your OEM plug. they are cheap chinese pieces that will fail just like the OEM unit. yes they are finned so they are a small upgrade to stock but not by much.

for around $40 you can get a MOSFET based unit. if you dont know what that is use the seacrh function and you will find the answers. it will require you to cut off your old connector and i recomend you use an eastern beaver connector which is about $20. the MOSFET unit should never fail due to heat and honestly will outlast most other parts on the bike from what i understand. very well built and a much better upgrade considering you will never have to worry about it again.

post of a picture of it and i can tell you if its been upgraded. you will see lettering on the piece. if it begins with "SH" its a shunt based unit and should be replaced. if it begins with "FH" its mosfet and no worry needed.

That is pricey for the yamaha unit. I have an R1 on the bike and another spare. Think I paid $44ish for each. Then go to Connectors

to get the connectors.

Yeah, although that's a brand spankin new Mosfet unit (won't need a spare) with connectors, seals, and terminals. All in all you spent nearly the same by buying a spare

If you just need a back up R/R, I have a stock 2001 VTR R/R on EBay for $23 shipped. Much better than the ones you are loOking at and slightly better than the original 1998 unit. I went MOSFET with the Eastern Beaver wires. Probably about $80 - $100 to do it.
