I have a friend who has an answer for this. . . **** it! If you're a survivor on the road you know you're invisible already - they don't see you and they don't care. Why the **** you give them target lock with loud clothing.

I've ridden with these guys and they got a point.

Yea, Inderocker, it is.

Since I have been exposed LOL here are the other two:

That is what is so surprising about the tank. I don't think it has been neglected by the current owner but I think the previous owner must have.

I am not scared off by the tank--there are lots of products/methods to get rid of rust.

I just wonder if it was left sitting with dirty (toxic) oil, etc and neglected in other ways.

The prices in the US are much lower than they are up here. A bike (almost any bike) has to be a real piece of crap to sell for less than $3,000 up here.

The selection of VTRs is not great, either.

I could look in Washington state, however, prices are pretty crappy there, too:

Here's the bad on a rusty/varnished tank.. if the owner has run the bike after the tank has rusted/varnished, then the rest of the system has been exposed to it. Carbs do not fair well to varnish or rust. I had recently purchased a '97 VFR750 that has extremely old gas and a rusty tank. The previous owner tried to get it going but could not. When I got it I immediately started tearing into it only to find the carbs were destroyed and two of the cylinder walls were rusted.

If it's possible for you to bring one back across the border to Canada then the '98 in Mill Creek looks pretty appetizing too.

Pack sand to all three in your area. Better bikes and better deals are just around the corner. Wait for it.....

The 05' shows no rt side photos. It is a horrible color, and it is missing the rt side exhaust. Custom!?! The brake light lense doesn't look ok either. Stay away.

Rust in tank. If you are great at all kinds of work and/or have connections and you get it CHEAP, maybe go for it. Alot of the radiator shops "boil" the tanks out and then reline. Often one has to refinish the outside of the tank!
More $$$. What about the engine, fuel system....

That leaves what.... 03' blue.... only if you can talk him down to around 4K and you love the bike.

Otherwise wait. Drinking egg nog and watching hockey can get you by for now while you wait for the next wave of deals to come through.

"Never winter driven...."

gee u think!?

that 05 blue SCREAMS abuse... "i didnt like the colour so i repainted?" as much as i'd love to believe that, the paint job linked with cracks from "moving around" and other stuff leads me to belive the bike has been dropped.

i'm not the one to run away from a dropped bike but hes lying, so screw that...

Buy a red '98. Why? You are buying a piece of history. 1998 is the flagship year. Look down at your vin # and know that your's was the 655th (for example) Hawk ever bulit. Having no clock or fuel guage adds to the originality and is how Honda first designed the bike. They wanted to market this bike to an intelligent customer. One who could interpret mileage on the odometer and know it is time for gas. And the clock.. who cares. Ride for the moment not for the time. Why red? Honda red is a color that stands out and says "Honda" which ultimatley implies "reliability." It is highly visible on the road and chicks dig it. There is my two cents.

the only downside with these bikes is that the mouthful of gas they take doesnt get you very far. and from what ive seen by bike standards they dont get that good gas milage. oh well, im still happy with my 165 km per fill, lol

Did you see this one on SHF classifieds?
1998 Honda SSS Hawk // 15k miles
If you're going to spend that much, there's your bike!
