Temp guage not moving!

I live in FL and it gets very hot here some days this time of year, but my temp guage hasn't been moving lately. It was working fine, staying at about half mark each ride. The bike is hot but not over-heating, however I know the needle should be much higher than minimum. it has full coolant. The fan is on most of the time. Is this most likely a fuse? If so, which one?

also, a side question. I just put a new tail fairing on and the seat isn't very flush now. there is about a 1.5 inch gap between the seat and the tail when the seat is latched on. what would cause this? thanks in advance.

My bike does the same and I was concerned about it until I heard the fan cycle on and off in the hot weather. As long as I can hear the fan cycling I'm not to worried about the gauge itself.

The first thing to do is to remove the wire from the sensor (the lower connection on the thermostat housing) and connect it to ground. Then switch on the ignition. The needle should go to full hot (make sure to turn it off as soon as the needle swings, so you don't damage the gauge) if it does go to full hot, the sensor is bad. If it doesn't move pull the interment cluster and check the green\blue wire for an open circuit to the sensor. Then check for 12v between the black\brown & green\black wire. If no voltage check for broken wires. I think the fuse is the second one from the diode but you should loose more than just the temp gauge if you blow it.

is it just me or does that sound pretty complicated? is this process in the manual that's on here?

Yeah it's in there somewhere but complicated, not really. First you check to see if the sensor is good by running the lead to ground. If the gauge responds, the sensor is bad. If it doesn't you check to make sure the gauge has power. Pretty straight forward.

Ok thanks I'm going to see what I can do tomorrow, from reading the manual it sounds like you're right that it won't be a fuse. dammit...
