Stock rad under seat?

Hi guys,

Has anyone tried mounting one of the OEM radiators in the front and the other under the seat? Or is the stock radiator too wide to fit under the seat? I'm trying to clean up the bike, but money is scarce.

One of the streetfighter mags relocated a stock rad to the front for a project, but ran only that one... Which is sort of scary.

Thanks!

I don't think Tweety has seen this yet.
Anyway, there are at least three threads of underseat radiators on this forum, one of them being mine.
I used a VTX1800 radiator only, but supplemented cooling with a larger oil cooler.

Aye, but I've never seen those VTX radiators going for cheap on Ebay.

I was just wondering if it's possible to clean things up and keep more or less the same cooling system. Was the VTX rad much narrower than the small side mounts on the SH? That is, would one of the side mounts fit under the seat while I ran the other on the front?

(This might be a basic idea that's been overlooked or just mud dumb -- I don't know.)

I would LOVE something as clean as your bike, Kai, but I don't have the skills or ready cash Unless a lister has a VXT they'd sell cheap..?

Less than 1/2 an hour with a tape measure, and you could answer the question.

Just sayin'.

Yep, and less than that if someone knows the answer off the top of his or her head.

I know I’ve supplied answers to save folks a half hour of taking their bikes apart or an hour of wrestling with the search engine. I wonder what the purpose of this forum is if it isn’t to save members time?

I am pretty sure it could fit, I am also sure that alone it wouldn't be enough to cool the bike, but as a supplement to a front mounted one it would certainly not hurt.

Personally I couldn't see giving up my under seat space. I have a first aid kit, the OEM tool kit, a tire puncture kit with CO2 cartridges, a flashlight, a multitool, a 12V cigarette plug (to charge cell phone - mp3 player), cloth gloves to go under my riding gloves in cool weather, a couple bandannas, a spare long sleeve t-shirt, and a water bottle under there. (and still have room for more stuff)

Some day I'm going to have to look at a stock, non-molested setup more carefully. My subframe has been hacked into a lot of ugly jigsaw pieces. There's nothing but air under my a$$.

See, I'd think that it would cool exactlty the same as stock, with the front rad getting more air and the back one getting less, but the same ccs of coolant. 'course if I went this route I'd be losing the temp guage until I could figure out something.

Dude, I can't afford a VTX rad, no way I can swing for a new bike. That's a silly good deal, though.
