Statistics: Do you own a truck?
I am a transfer student, soon to be attending University of California Irvine in Spring of '06. My brother and I got into a huge argument about motorcyclists and truck ownership. It all started when my brother made a certain statement to the tone of: "You cut lanes and are a menace to all other moterists". I replied,"We cut lanes, but we are 16 times more at risk of fatal injury. We bikers reserve the right, in the great state of California, to share lanes because for one, we are far more conservative when it comes to fuel consumption!" His reply was,"Fuel conservation - most bikers own gas guzzling trucks." Anyhow, I decided to write my stat thesis on bikers and "gas" guzzling truck ownership. So, please post wether you own a bike or bikes, and or a truck or CAR. Then state wether it is a gas guzzler (ie a full size truck or V8... or V10 for you bold individuals unafraid of gas prices). I will post my elaborate report sometime in December. I will be sampling biker populations unexclusive to SH owners aswell. Thank you for your time.

"01 Toyota Tundra 4.7L V8 4X4.
I have had the bed of that thing filled up with various descriptions of crap from motorcycles to to ski equipment, to climbing gear to camping gear to house debris. I can't imagine life without a truck. I drive on mountain roads every day and everyody drives a truck. I'd be scared in a small car. At least on a bike I was small and agile. I'm selling (what's left of) my bike and putiing an exhaust system on my truck. I am considering a small car and the tide seems to be turning. I can already see that more people are downsizing for their commuter cars. I could make a car payment on gas savings. |

Re: Statistics: Do you own a truck?
I want to thank everyone for replying. I know the question is some what pointless in nature, but most statistics are. Even this statement pulled straight from a text book: Statistically, most statistics are only 50% true. Does anyone see the inherent contradiction in that little piece of information? Anyhow, please continue posting your vehicle ownership so I can gather the largest sample possible. I might be able to sell my report to some major auto manufacturers (at the expense of being laughed at). Thanks again.

I took my first ever trip to the UK/France this summer and it really drove home the point of how much we waste fuel-wise. Most of our gas guzzlers would not physically fit on their streets nor have a place to park much less afford to fill them up.
I had an old toyota regular cab pickup, got about 27-29mpg on the highway, and wished I never sold it. |

1990 VW Corrado (G60) OK on gas as long as I'm easy on it
1991 Toyota 4X4 pretty consistent regardless of how I drive it 1969 AMC Javelin pretty consistent also, but in a bad way, usually between 8-12 MPG. 1991 Audi 100 not too bad, mostly highway miles, 20- 25mpg. 2000 Superhawk, you know.... |
Re: Statistics: Do you own a truck?
Probably you don't need this data from Europe, but that's my situation:
1998 Honda VTR 1000 F, 15 Km/l (35 mpg) 1986 Gilera Dakota 350 (now 550cc), 20 Km/l (47 mpg) 1986 Yamaha RD 350 YPVS, 15 Km/l (35 mpg) 2002 Alfa Romeo 156 1.9 JTD, 17,5 Km/l (41 mpg) DIESEL 1988 Fiat Fiorino PickUp 1.7 Diesel, 15Km/l (35 mpg) 1984 Autobianchi A112 Abarth 70 HP (1050 cc), 15 Km/l (35 mpg) |
Vtrumble I love that year Jav, also love the AMX as well. The only downfall, which I'm sure your well aware of, is the price for parts! Love those cars though.
