Somebody talk me down
OK fellas, help me out. I love my 98 Superhawk, but have a chance to buy a 09 Repsol CBR1000RR with 3,500 miles for 6K. The CBR is perfect and I’m thinking about writing a check tomorrow. I have several other bikes in the garage so if the CBR comes in the Hawk will have to leave. I rode the CBR for a while today and really freaking liked it, but it is VERY different from the VTR. I will miss the sound of the rumble through the Two Brothers exhaust, and while the CBR has WAY more power and is much smoother the Hawk really delivers that power in a way that makes me feel like a rock star. I will not miss getting 125 miles per tankful (if I’m easy on the throttle). I don’t think I can pass up a ten year newer bike, fuel injection, 50HP, better instrumentation, etc. at this price point.
Thoughts?

those liter bikes have disgusting amounts of power. twist that throttle and hang on. i had a couple gsxr1000s but they just didn't do it for me after i got my first hawk. i added an rc51 and sold the gixxer. then i got a 1098 and sold the rc51. the 1098 is a lot closer in hp and engine performance to the gix1k but it has all the v twin goodness too. of course the vtr has remained in my garage as it is pointless to sell because it is worth more to me than anyone else. fact is i parked my duc a couple years ago because i prefer riding the hawk. it is just so damned user friendly. last year i added a second vtr to the garage. it was $1200 so i had to bring it home. i almost bought my third vtr last week.

i4s feel like sewing machines. very powerful sewing machines but they just humm along. high rpm screamers. i like that thump thump thump you get from a v twin. character
get an i4 but keep your hawk.

Bud, have you spent any time on a modern hypersport machine? Really hikes your feet up creating an acute angle at the knees and the low clip-ons put much weight on the wrists and elbows. Feels great at speed. For a nice easy cruise, not so much.
But it is personal preference. Many of us have fallin' for the VTR and it's ways. If you haven't by now, maybe it isn't meant to be...

Just my two cents, the 09 cbr1000rr is a great machine, but note that many of them have some issues with burning too much oil, plus technologically it's already outdated by far, not much better if at all from an updated mod'ed good VTR.
I have 2016 GSXS1000 which is pretty much superb machine, ABS and traction control and a whole lot more, but I still cannot depart from the VTR, it's got a character that I love and cannot and will not give up.
If I had to keep one bike, I would still stick with the VTR over cbr1000rr. But if you can afford a newer up to date machine, get it next to the VTR and enjoy the differences.
