Sold as is?
Sold as is?
Hi, I'm new to the forums here. I have a question regarding a vtr1000 i am about to purchase, and i saw and test rode the bike and everything worked fine. But when we arranged to meet at the DMV, he said that I would have to sign a note saying "sold as is". Should I be worried? He never mentioned anything wrong with the bike.
Sounds to me like your seller is just protecting himself by ensuring that you understand there is no warranty if anything fails or you later notice a fault that you had previously overlooked.
I'm a bit of a VTR noob myself, but they generally run really well until the camchain tensioner calls time and lets the cam chain jump a few teeth, which then leads to unwanted valve to piston contact! If that has happened it is unlikely to be something you'd miss. Manual cam chain tensioners insure against that and are pretty inexpensive. Other than that, like pretty much all Honda's (and other makes) the regulator/rectifier may fail and that leads to charging woes, cooked batteries and occasionally alternator damage.

Caveat Emptor!
Buyer beware.
If you are not knowledgeable have someone who is look at the bike.
More than likely the seller is just trying to protect themselves however if it was me I would have someone who knows about VTRs have a look to ensure that all is well having regard to the purchase price.
Good luck

I wouldn't worry about it. It's an older bike and the seller is just watching his behind. Where are you located? I'm sure if you are close enough to one of us we could look the bike over for you if you are that concerned. Also post pics. Some of the members on here can tell you a lot just from pics.
