I saw that this morning and thought about posting it but couldn't bring myself to do it.

Guess he wanted everyone to make sure they saw the chrome.

Pure crap don't do it or die....
ask me how I know, freaking first owner of my ZX-9 took off the right brake assy, witch is totally dumb you don't notice at normal speeds so you get used not to worry until I went for a 200km/h run, no freakin brakes at all, just a brake pad grinder. I hated this bike for every bolt and for every dollar I put into.
Ahhh feel better..........

And it looks like a scooter

Holy Crap!
That's the worst idea I've ever heard.
Why would anyone want to cut their front braking power by half????
More brakes, good. Less brakes verrry bad.

I haven't been here in a while and took a look and couldn't help myself.
Holy Crap! (did I already say that?)

Hey Doug. I just got your message about hot dogs. We were nervous, but survived unscathed.

Damn I miss my Super Hawk...

Bad idea. Buell gets away with it by using a VERY large rotor attached to the rim.

Good to see you here again, RCVTR! Don't be such a stranger. I thought this single rotor was a terrible idea when I saw it. Like is said above, with no accomodation for the surface area loss, this has got to be suicide.

The raison d'etre for this is drag racing. If that's all you do then carrying the extra rotor is a waste. If you're not *only* drag racing the bike, this is a monumentally stupid thing to do in most instances.

However, there are a lot of misunderstandings about "braking power" and number of rotors, and rotor size, etc. Two rotors isn't not twice the braking force, but it is (more or less) twice the braking power. The braking force is determined by the area of the master cylinder and the area of the pistons, along with the pad area and rotor diameter. If you're using the proper master cylinder with a single rotor, it'll have the same braking force as two rotors. The bike will do a stoppie on any size rotor(s). Two rotors gives you more heat capacity so that if you're braking constantly from high speed it can shed that heat and the brakes don't fade... or will take a lot longer to fade. A GS-500 will do a stoppie (if the forks don't fold under ) as well as a GSX-R1000, and it's single rotor is more than enough to keep the little engine at bay all day long at the track.

Taking one rotor off and not changing the master cylinder means you have half the leverage intended for the system so while it'll be firm, you'll have to pull HARD to get it to brake. This is dumb.

Absolutely right,
That's this heat sink capacity that is a problem while doing a top speed run that need to be interrupted for some reason, that's one of the times it was close enough.
When the brakes are fading (and it's fast) you need to apply more pressure for the same braking power and the leverage is not there to help you increase the pressure, your hand muscles are quickly overwhelmed....

Yep, drag racing only. I hear of people removing the rear brake assembly and running the stock fronts for the same reason.
