SH is my baby,is it time to part her out?

This bike was my baby, and all my buddies are telling me it is time to part her out, but the accident was like 2 days ago and I cant bring myself to do it yet. So I figured some second opinions were in order! Can anyone tell me what i am looking at, and how much to get her back on the road if at all? Or hey i'm still all rashed up so if anyone wants to do it for me that'd be great FYI the bruise on my shoulder is like engulfing my upper body and is twice as tall by now.... and you don't even want to know what the lower body looks like. But +1 to JOE ROCKET and HJC i had a fully armored jacket, gloves, helmet, boots, jeans, without all that I probly wouldn't be here so YOU GUYS WEAR YOUR GEAR ALL THE TIME!

Ya, my Joe Rocket really saved me too.

If the frame is still straight, it just looks like you need a fork swap / upgrade and a new radiator and it'll be ridable again (fightered of course). But do check for cracks in the frame.

Damn man, glad to see your ok.

Why fightered? He could just get the fairings online and it would be like new after that?

sorry to see. that looks painful. serious carnage for both of you. do you have insurance on the bike? it would be a big job - if you enjoy working on things, maybe something fun to do over winter. if not, I would part out what you can. Its surprising how much road rash you had even with the armored gear. any insights for us as to why? did it wear right through? coat ride up your arm? mesh jacket? good luck healing- keep them clean and moist with some triple antibiotic cream till reskinned over - scabbing only delays healing though we all seem to think its a good thing.

Only because I was showing the minimum work he could do to get it going. Fairings are better, but that'd be extra $$ and work.

you could fix it or just part it all out, but keep your nice mods that are on it, buy another one and fit all your mods to it

From what I see the frame, and sub frame are lookin good. But for CLIBY, I was going XXmph on a fairly sharp highway entry ramp, the bike low sided (cold tire or gravel) then slid me through a few lanes of highway (on my side, face, and belly) where a guard rail abruptly ended my slide. From there I went airborne hit the guard rail on the other side on the median and landed in the middle (the median was only like 6 ft wide). It was a mesh armored jacket, and the gloves were too but with the weight of the bike and how fast/far I slide the road just ate through the mesh and made some of my armor start to fall out , so that may be a reason for my arms gettin more chewed up. But for what happened I would say the jacket did its job

Ouch!

Hey But ur good, well mostly.

I too crashed my Hawk, 18 months after I got it, didn't look that bad, but luckily had insurance - $5200 damage - was about 300 shy of total - glad I got it fixed & still have it.

Yes if U can tell how it happened - I'm sure we loved to know.

but from the looks, all new front end is warranted.

I'd take off what U can, buy another - sell extra parts.

Good Luck

Rhino

Thanks nnjhawk, in the post right above yours I mentioned how it happened. Good thing you had insurance, I had the motorcycle equivalent of PLPD insurance so I pretty much ate the bike.

Just to get an idea, if parted would anyone have any interest in any of the parts?

You are going to be in the $3 to $4k range to repair it... I would part it out and use that money to put toward your next one. It's just a thing, you are lucky to have come out of that crash relatively unharmed.

when i totaled mine due to a high speed low-side, similar damage, cost me a couple thousand to fix it up. Parts were purchased from salvage yards and on-line shopping. It was a somewhat lengthy process , so I bought a xr650l to ride till I got it done cause I didn't want to be without a bike during the rebuild.

your decision process to rebuild or part out may consider several factors:

can you be without a bike for several months?
are you mechanically capable and/or have a desire to learn to dissemble and assemble?
you can use this as an opportunity to upgrade.
You can buy another hawk cheap. Immaculate, low-mileage hawks for 3-4 thousand.
etc.

Glad to see that you are somewhat okay. I would just part out the bike, save the money and get a new one. Unless the bike has somekind of "sentimental" meaning for you such as "your first piece of *** bought it for you and you want to remember her forever" get rid of it.

With the damage it sustained, it will most likely never ride the same way again and you probably will not have the same confidence you once had in it when you are going a little "too hot" into that sharp corner. Just my 2 cents.

I wear the a Rocket mesh when it's hot. I will be a little more inclined to my heavier one after your test results. Thanks for sharing your experience and the great pics, except the one of you.
My last crash ruined an armored cordora suit/helmet with thankfully no road rash. I've heard some materials melt and burn you in the process. Sounds like fun huh?

Dude, you have been packed as hard as it gets. Glad to see you are standing, recovering, and probly pissing on everyone around you! Bravo

The bike is toast. Parting may not even be an option if you have an insurance company involved. You focus on getting well and even if you lose it to impound - walk away with what you got.

It ain't a bike.

So you're all geared up and you take a beating. It doesn't get much better than this. I'm proud of you because I know how hard it is to be diligent. Sometimes, it's damn hard to stay alive. You have done both!

There's another bike that awaits.

Good to see you walk away. That bike is toast, man. Count your lucky stars, part her out, and pick up a new ride!

Yep thank all you guys for the input. My girl friend believes the bike has too much bad luck and won't ride it anyway, so you guys made the decision for me. So I will start stripping it more and will post some stuff up here in a few days, so stay tuned.

Sorry to hear of your crash.
You could put the engine in that John Deere. Mow your front lawn in about 10 seconds.

Well if you do part it out, I am sure you will find a buyer for the exhaust. And people do need OEM parts from time to time too. Does she still run? You might sell the engine as a working unit to someone with munched CCTs.

Glad your OK. If it were mine, I would tear it down and start looking for parts to upgrade the front end and get her back together. Your choice mate.
