Running rough after switching to ethanol free gas
Running rough after switching to ethanol free gas
Local WalMart refurbished its gas station with new tanks and pumps, adding ethanol free gas. Figured it was worth a try. Drained tank and filled with ethanol free gas. Started right up and settled into normal idle. After couple minutes, started running rough, like it had a vacuum leak. Checked carb sync, adjusted a little. Roughness does not go away with more throttle. Bike has always run great, not a single problem, on ethanol gas. Gonna switch back to ethanol tomorrow to see if it changes. Could the ethanol free gas cause bike to run rough?
WalMart gas wouldn't be my first option whether it's part ethanol or pure gas.
Pure gas is what I've used on all my cars for the past 30 years and I always get the gas from Mom and pops gas stations that have been around for eternity.
Never had an issue with the fuel systems.
The bike will get pure gas as well and according to the previous owner is the only gas it's used which is pure gas.
You also mentioned Walmart just changed their tanks or fuel for the new pure gas and that's probably why you're having issues.
If I see a tanker truck filling the gas station I go to the next station as filling those tanks can stir up the soup when filling.
Good luck though and hope it gets running right again. Don't be discouraged with pure gas though. You just got unlucky with Walmart gas.

That's what I'm thinking. Swapped out gas to no effect. Pulled front plug and it didn't look so good. Got a couple plugs coming. See what happens with new plugs and new gas before I jump into carbs. Weather is not conducive to working on bike right now anyway.
Weather is not conducive in Texas???!!! Working on a Buell, outside in Central IL. High today was 34f!
A lot of folks seem to be focusing on the fact that it's a 20 hour test, rather than the results. Yet at 20 hours it shows significant differences amongst the results. Also, 20 hours at a high load is much more pressure and stress on an engine than what you do commuting, which is nearly constantly at a very low load.
