Riding weather
It's 85 and sunny here, but not a motorcycle within 1000 miles.
I've been here twice and only seen one bike. It was a bright red Harley Wide Glide. You'll be either happy, or really mad, to know that we blew it into tiny little pieces

very cool! Not much of a HD guy. I don't miss Iraq one bit...I did two deployments between the wars. Flying off the coast catching smugglers. 10 years Navy. Keep up the good work over there and come home soon and safe!
It sucks *** here!!! I have taken this week off of work for the last 9 years.
It has never been so damn cold, and the wind.Forget About IT! I was really hoping to finally take my license test. But no way am i going out there.

I know the feeling. Wednesday it was in the 80's I am leading a Memorial Ride tomorrow for my Best Friend that passed in Jan '05 and his father who passed this Jan.
The high tomorrow is 42 or 44 in Nashville and much colder out my way. So we will be freezing our asses off they will be looking down laughing at us.

This is going to be shitty across the entire eastern half of the nation for the next few days. The temp here has been dropping about ten per hour. Thank God it's Friday and tomorrow we don't have to work in it. Low is to be 38F and high tomorrow 45F. Back in the mid-seventies by mid-week.
You can complain all you want about the weather... Instead I choose to give thanks to the men and women who have given up their motorcycles, families, jobs, and safety for us to be able to ride in an weather we choose!!
Hats off to all our troops who have served and continue to serve my beautiful country throughout all the seasons!

Or maybe they just do it for the money......
Well, as an E-1 to E-3 that's about the pay. But senior to that you start getting money for food, housing, bonuses, etc., much of which is non-taxable income. Not to brag, as it is easily accessible information, as an E-7 in the Navy I bring home $4700/month. Last year I had under $39k income on my W-2. There is quite a difference between what we bring home and what we claim. Additionally, all income made while in a combat zone is non-taxable.
I don't know how long he had been in or what rank he was, so here's an average:
E3 with 3 years service in 2004 base pay $1600
MINIMUM Iraq pay $325
Total $1925 x 12 months = $23,100
Keep in mind these are worst case, no one actually gets this small of an amount. Also remember that his W2's wont show most or all of his pay during a deployment as it is tax free, so they are usless for figuring what one really made. I know this is a pointless conversation but it's a sore spot for me, all day long I hear soldiers crying about not getting paid enough. Not that I am implying in the least that this is the case with your boyfriend.

There are alot of other ways of making money......As for those in the military....they are not doing it for the money. They do it because it is an honor to serve...and follow in the footsteps of those before us. I did my time and I think back on it and am very glad I had an opportunity to serve. I can't serve anymore due to a metal plate that holds my neck together, but I still miss flying in that Seahawk every now and then....just don't miss the jumping out of it into a cold ocean.
