Race w/ Chrysler 300

I was in 3rd when he drove past and then gunned it. I tried to reel him in but could not. He was already ahead by about 20 feet, However he was not pulling away either. I tried to catch up to a stop light to redeem myself, but too much traffic.

That's not even sad, that's plain pitiful. I could probably take one on in 6th gear at 30mph.

I'm pretty sure we all go the same speed at 8000rpm. As I said he was already on the throttle when he passed me. I wanted to real him in but it was too late.

In all fairness an srt8 will go over 170 mph stock...plus depending on what he had done to it a highway roll on could prove embarrassing. You'll smoke anything off a light or low speed roll, but a higher speed roll on is a different story. Where are you at in SoFla?

well if he was in 3rd, he wasnt on the highway, or if he was on the highway he was in his powerband....

300's are heavy dogs.....only place they shine is the highway cuz of the huge HP and the weight is not as important as HP.

you shoulnt have had any problems taking him...

quick question, do you have a hard time keeping the nose down in first at WOT?

I feel bad, the guy is on his 3rd post and getting chastised by us for loosing to a 300m. I guess there are some things that one doesn't admit. Shitting your pants would be one.

Were you in third? Were you at 8k rpm? Were you doing in the neighborhood of 130+? If so, I would guess any vehicle that blew by would be difficult to catch up, there isn't a whole lot of acceleration left.

Even a Viper RT/S or a Corvette Z06 can't catch a SuperHawk, 0 to 60 or in the 1/4 mile.

But if you're going stoplight to stoplight, don't even bother. He's just making a fool of himself and you're going to be cop bait.

Maybe you're not using the "right" oil.

The SRT version is rated at 425 HP and turns quarters in about 13 flat. You can sure beat that with a VTR, but you'll need to down shift from cruise rpm and pin it.

Oh well, I guess I'm just not that up on my Chryslers.

Having said that, I don't think there is any car under 200 grand that can beat the SuperHawk in the 1/4 or 0 to 60.

Ok, I probably deserve what I'm getting from you guys. I've only had the Hawk for a couple months. Althought I'm not new to riding, I'm still getting acclimated to the bike. Having said that, this was not an even race at all. The guy blew by me, so i was late to react.

so why would u post it if it wasnt a race.

lets not kid ourselves guys

the new Z06 does mid 11's in the 1/4 mile, right around what our bikes do...and i bet its easier to get consistent 11's in the Vette than on our bike...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR4nizGmrXg

122MPH traps....best i trapped was 125MPH

there are documented 1/4 drags of ZO6's hitting 10's stock

The 425hp 300C has a hp-lb ratio of .1097 with a 150lb driver, the hawk with a 150lb rider has a hp-lb ratio of ~.16.

A 4 wheel vehicle is much easier to launch than a motorcycle. The SuperHawk has done 10.83, if I recall correctly, in an online magazine test. You get someone like Ricky Gadson in the saddle and 10s are no problem.

Ok, let's get to the bare bones. I'll cut you some slack til we get the facts.

P38, how fast were you going? Third gear? Stock sprockets? Reaction time to him passing you? How many RPMs did you hit before shifting to 4th?

I don't care if it was POSSIBLY the SRT-8, that's only a possibility.

BTW, welcome to the SH world, we're not easy on the new guys, especially with a 1st/2nd post like this. You'll eventually see that we're some great guys with the love of the same bike that you now own. I do hope that you enjoy it. The top speed is limited, but when you learn how the bike likes to get there, it's a lot of fun getting there.

Topics often get off subject like this one; speed trap times, what type of car, blah blah blah, comparisons to 600s.

Enjoy the SH!

Let's us know the particulars of what really happened, not the abbreviated version. It would've had to be the SRT-8 for me not to pass him, and he would've had to be doing better than our top speed for me not to pass him. But that's me and my ego (and a few others on here).

Edit: I see the stop light part now. Don't know that I would've pushed that hard in town either, on the interstate is a different story.

if the SRT blew by him, he already had a big head start and had his power up. Not surprising that he had trouble initially.

However...the real lesson....don't race on the street.

Just to bring some more light to this. I own a SRT-8 Charger and yes a SH will out run it from stoplight to stoplight. On a roll it not such an easy task. Also if he had any mods then it becomes even more difficult.

I know of some guys running in the 10's in the 1/4 with motor work.

No one said it was an srt8 300. Probably some punk flying down the street passed him. He tried to catch up and ran out of road. Srt8 or not he should have reeled him in. Its a fat pig of a car and to just hang one through town questions the condition of the bike. There is no way even an srt8 300 from a roll should pull a hawk.
As I stated above. 630 hp corvette z06 put 3 lengths on me on the hiway from 80 to 180 kph. That thing makes a lot more power and weighs a good deal less than the 300.

Erik S. -Thanks for the warm welcome. Definately a tough room..but I didn't expect anything less.
Red Liner - You asked why I posted if it wasn't a race? I guess for entertainment value. Its always fun to get facts from folks like Just Nick (i.e. HP -Lb Ratios). The off topics are good. I'd love to hear about everyone's race stories. New Thread...to get me off the hook?

Not a problem P38, there are other racing threads out there, as well as a running from the cops thread. Lots of interesting stuff and tales on this board.

Keep reading. You might find that the bike is out of tune and that's why you didn't reel him in like you should have. Or that with a 15/43 sprocket set up might have put you in a better power band and you would have caught and passed him.

Lots of info, days worth of reading here. Still doing it myself, 2 years later.

Enjoy!
