Parking in the city... meters, parking structures, fees...
Parking in the city... meters, parking structures, fees...
Curious what you guys do in the big cities for parking. There are some motorcycle parking areas throughout downtown San Diego that are apparently free, but other times I find myself competing for car spots.
And in two weeks, I'll be cruising around Boston on a rented Harley...
Do you ever park between metered cars?
How about taking the corner spots with the diagonal lines in lots? Are those always legal?
There are also pay lots down here, where you park and then stick money in for the particular spot you're in. I'm not sure how that works if you're in a corner spot. I have a feeling they want to get their $20/day regardless of what you're driving.
Ever share spots with other bikes in a pay lot?
I learned that parking on the sidewalks doesn't fly with security guards, but I do it anyways if it's a quick stop at a crowded store.
I guess I find it frustrating when there's no full size spots anywhere but plenty of creative spots out of the way, but I don't use them out of for fear of getting towed, or a $46 parking ticket.
I've ridden to a few concerts and special events and am usually able to get special treatment from the parking attendant and they point me to a spot out of the way. It seems like very few people ride to events like this, so they don't have a clue how to deal with bikes. And it doesn't make sense to pay $10 for a parking pass only to have to set it on your bike where anyone can take it.

Best diner near my sons house has a whole row out front... ten angled spots marked "motorcycle parking only"! Most people I know don't ride to shows since you have gear and stuff and might get a good buzz going. My fear is always some oblivious *** cager whipping into a parking spot that they "think" is empty because they don't see a bumper as they glance up from the text messaging. I always park on the end of a row or far out in the space so honey might be seen before some disaster that lands me in jail. I try to stay legal, but I've done the sidewalk thing, shared spots with other bikes and small cars, behind the dumpster...never did a 12 O bar in a doorway though. Yet.
