Very big...

The biggest I've been on is the C-17, haven't had a chance yet at a C-5.

I haven't seen one up close, but my neighbor in the late '50s to mid '60s was in the Air Force and did maintenance on C-5A's at Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA in '67-'68 while I was at Skaggs Island. Travis was the departure point for guys going to Viet Nam.
He said the wings at the fuselage were 40' off the ground, and when full of fuel you could reach up and touch the wing tips from the ground.

AFL - Spend a few months working with Telstra on a consultant basis about 5 years ago. Working in the Rialto tower. The cafe on the top floor has amazing views. Took in a west coast v. melbourne game, drank to much wine and beer, and left to much money at the Crown Casino.

Melbourne is an awesome city. Anytime I speak with folks that are traveling to Australia, I recommend Melbourne as a must see.

Cheers!

The C-5 is a good bit bigger than the C-17. For scale, we slightly outsize a Boeing 747. Biggest plane in the U.S. inventory (mil or civ) until the Airbus A380 comes along.

Sample pic of C-5 air refueling with a KC-135 (or civilian Boeing 707):

Cheers
