New Hawk.
New Hawk.
Just picked up a 98 on Saturday and the guy I bought it from recommended I join up. I never thought to ask what his Tag on here was though. This is the first bike I have owned, always been using friends' for the past few years.
Still getting used to the quirks of the v-twin and VTR in general, but so far a killer bike.
It has TwoBrothers(debaffled) exhaust which make it sound amazing. as well as fender/signal eliminator. No plans for it yet, except the mirrors and maybe new fairing(due to a crack at the hanger).

Quick synopsis. The main mechanical gremlins that can fail & strand you are the regulator/rectifier (RR) and the cam chain tensioners (CCT). You should replace them as soon as you can (in my opinion). When my RR died I had to push the bike a couple miles to get it off the highway. Even if you push start it the bike isnt charging so will drain the battery & die. If your CCT's go, it will be major mechanical unhappiness.
That explained. These are bulletproof reliable bikes as the mileage threads show. Good luck with the bike.

Nice "RED" bike. You will read different opinions on colors of our bikes.
Yet, Welcome to the forum, May i suggest, you keep your mirrors, If you are broad shouldered. The factory mirrors give you a fine view of your chest. +1 on the mirrors.
And anything mechanical factual advise, has been usually proven LAW..
