New Guy, and old Lurker

New Guy, and old Lurker
Well semi-new, I have been lurking for a bit. I acquired my Superhawk by telling the original owner that he had to remove it from our business property. Not that I was opposed to motorcycles, but it had been sitting untouched in the elements by the garbage bin for almost two years; tires were flat, body work faded, seat had rotted out, the bike was in bad shape. His only reply was handing me the pink slip and telling me it was my problem.
I had no idea what this bike was, but after finding this website I realized he handed me a diamond in the rough. The bike only has 6k miles on it, and the engine has good compression. It turns out he parked it because he had some clown re-jet the carbs and it ran like crap.
New project:
Set up the carbs
Ordered Ape CCT's
New tires
New chain
Scrape the rust off the sprockets
Rebuild the forks
Repair and paint, or acquire new body work
New seat
Miles and Smiles...
Cannot wait to get this thing on the road.

A rebuild is definitely the way to go...do something custom and different you wouldn't normally do since your starting from scratch! And post plenty of pics cause everybody loves them!
Good luck an welcome. You came to the right source...

I found mine via craigslist in North Seattle. She had been outside under a fir tree (uncovered) for about a year and half. Had been laid down twice (once on each side) as the then owner thought learning to wheelie was a good choice on a Superhawk for a novice rider. I won't go into the cost details but I did all the work myself (except painting) and I gotta' say, I am damn glad I did! This bike is a blast to ride and with all the time and effort she's my most attached to bike of the several I own. Do it. You can see the finished project pics on my profile page.
