uh, seems most who ride their shawks hard are dissapointed with the forks. Upgrades (like a 954/929 swap or better springs) help, and aren't that expensive or difficult to do. There are a few guys here who run on the track, they'll probably speak up shortly.

I would think your 954 is alot more track-ready than a superhawk, are you afraid of wrecking it or something?

Sounds like a great deal. The first thing is braided lines next depends on how fast you plan to be. If you're experienced you need to do some suspension work. either rebuild the forks you have or convert to rc51 or 954 front end and new shock. I also did a 520 chain conversion and droped one tooth on the front sprocket and up two on threar and it pulls alot harder out of the corners. As I said before this all depends on how fast you are , the first few times on the track the stock suspension was fine you can kneedrag all you want but the faster you get the more you expose the weak suspension. All that said I can still keep up to my buddies gsxer 1000.

Ther is also a guy on here who really did his hawk up nice for the track and could probably give you more insight he goes by rc996.

Hope this helps you out. Just curious why not race the 954 and use the superhawk for the road?

There is no comparison. the v four is much more linear and great for what it's made for, sport "touring" not racing. The hawk has much more bottom and mid range punch. If you are going to race competivly the hawk does need some mods but once done it's a great track bike. Without out the mods it's an exellent street bike.
