Mirror Spacers on e-bay

I know there was a thread on this somewhere, but I couldn't find it...

Has anyone tried these spacers, which are sold on e-bay? #220129339389

Does anyone know if these spacers will work?

I have a similar set (GenMar) and they do help increase the view.

I purchased a set of those from that seller. They work fine, although they do look kinda funny when mounted. I believe my friend's wife said it best - "Your bike's mirrors are wearing high heels."

As for added rear-view, it made it so much easier to see behind. But, the bike is effectively wider as a result.

Hahaha, they do kind of look like old platform shoes. I'm not sure that's all bad!

I bought a set of R1 knock-offs from a seller on Ebarf and they give about the same field of view but the way they fit the "footprint" on the stock plastic sucks. It's not horrible but it's "very" not good at all.

The guys that wrote most of the threads about the R-6 mirrors were right - the studs line up and are compatible - nothing else is! They do improve the view. Well, mostly, sort of. The adjustments are at the stops for my field of view to be effective.

I still think one of our budding CNC engineers/members is going to land a windfall when he announes the perfect mirror for the Superhawk. I think it includes a readily available mirror and a stem and mount that is unique to our Superhawks. I think there's hope for rider's in the <190 lb range - includes gear so don't cheat.

I think for you bigger guys finding mirrors that will let you look directly or slightly back are going to look like ET Call Home no matter what.

So install some bar ends. That way you won't have to worry about the traffic ahead you will also have this light show of vibrating headlights in your mirror(s). Be careful - objects may be closer . . .

There's lots of options but for me the R6 length is good. It doesn't make bike look like an insect and gives an improved field of view. If one could create a machined transition that would allow for better fitment to the cowl I think would have a homerun for most Superhawk riders.

I have the GenMar mirror extenders and they definitely help with the rear view. I never thought the Superhawk was the prettiest girl on the block anyway, so I figured some "platforms" couldn't hurt!

I have the GenMar type spacers as well. I agree with the platform remarks as well but it works and isn't too bad once you get used to it. And for me it is better that the alternative of no view at all! =)

Has anyone actually tried the ones listed on eBay from the original post to this thread? From the ad, I assume that RC51 and Superhawk mirrors are pretty much identical??? The eBay spacers are significantly cheaper than the GenMars....

Any thoughts?

SH bolts are studs and I couldn't get mine out...it's like they're cast in there. RC51 bolts are all the way through and so easy to replace with longer ones.

Interesting! Here is what the seller told me in response to an email regarding applicability to the Superhawk:

"They won't work with your bike... I'm working on it though...

Cheers,

Barna"

You may want to write to the producer and tell him they actually do work. I was assuming your post meant you bought a set from him specifically for the VTR. That guy is going to kick himself in the *** if spends time tooling up to make a Superhawk spacer only to realize it is identical to the RC51

Doc...please do explain. I also wrote him and he told me the same thing. Problem I saw was as I explained above. The bases on my VTR have studs pressed or cast into the alloy base. I tried in vain for a while with vicegrips etc, to remove them as I had bought some THICK black nylon at a Tap Plastics store and was going to make my own. Could NOT get the studs out. The I investigated "standoff"s and bolt extending things, also to no avail locally because of being metric. I gave up and decided to wait until something else comes along. Do YOU know something I don't? I suppose you could buy RC51 mirrors AND extenders for RC51......I happen to like the shape of SH mirrors.

That's really odd. That was the same seller I purchased mine from about a year and a half ago. I don't see why it would have changed.

Nothing more to explain. I am simply relaying the exact text the seller sent me. Nothing more, nothing less. I like the idea of extenders, and I used a similar set on my Hayabusa. However, if the seller is telling me they don't work, I am less inclined to make the purchase. It sounds like they will work, but not ideally....

Hey Doc...and all...still not being clear I guess. My stockers have pressed in or cast in bolts that I can't get out. RCs have bolts going through the base...easy to fit longer ones. Maybe mine are different..?

Yah, little threaded tube extenders so you can use an allen from the other side. If I could find those I'd be happy. I have the black plastic block material, a good beltsander, and a good eye.
Thanks ALi.......are those GenMar?

Ali's can be Gen-Mar's but they could just as easily be another "cheap Ebay one" as they look identical to the one's I got of ebay... The only differnce is that the Gen-Mars have a tad better finish...

The difference is that on the VTR the black plastic block is "D" shaped and on the RC51 it's not... the boltpattern however is the same, so technically it could be possible to match it up, but it would likely look kinda dumb... Plus the issue to get the bolts out (they are press-fitted in and it's not very likely you will get them out...)

Look around, there are other's who have a Gen-Mar knock off for the VTR... can't give you any link's thoo...

You could easily make the bolt extenders yourself from a round bar of aluminium, drill a hole and tap in M8 threads... not that complicated... If you can make the plastic, then you can make that too...
