Manual CCT's

Hey guys. The guy that owned my Superhawk before i did put manual CCT's on it for whatever reason. He told me that he always made them finger tight and then backed them off 1/4 of a turn. Does anyone know if this is the best way to do it? Thanks.

If the CCTs (APE?) were originally installed properly (cam timing), cam chain slack between the sprockets @ TDC should have been set at the specified deflection (about 1/4"). After installation it can be adjusted by warming up the engine to operating temperature and backing off the tensioner bolt until the cam chain just starts making a rattling noise and then threading it in until the noise JUST stops, and then locking it down with the jam nut WITHOUT changing the setting.

BTW the reason he did it is that the stock ones like to fail and bork your engine..

The APE manual CCT's are the preferred way to make your engine last, you shouldn't have to adjust them again if the are adjusted right, unless you start hearing noise, leave them alone.
