magnesium wheels

This could be under Performance mods, Cosmetic mods, ebay, or rants I guess.

The Magnesium wheels on Evilbay at the moment, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

look interesting. So I email the seller and ask what needs to be modified to fit the Shawk. He replies "I don't remember the specifics, you should check the forums". I'm thinkin, what ? The listing says SuperHawk wheels ? So I send a message asking what size they are, (3.5 & 5.5 ?), and original application. NO response. Duchebag ?

I bet someone on here knows these wheels, info or thoughts ?

I asked similar questions-he wasn't very helpful. Who knows what the original application was. He didn't even know what ******* brand they were.

The wheels look like Marvics (Penta II, but I could be wrong). One question I would have relates to the cush drive asembly as I did not see any in the pictures (unless it uses the stock one). Another issue relates to the longevity of cast magnesium wheels. I picked up a set of cast Mg PVMs some time ago and ran them for two years with no problem. After reading about some concerns related to the long-term durability of this type of wheel, I recently had them checked by a metallurgist who reported that they are fine. THis may be something else to consider....

Comparing pictures I believe gixxerjohn is right... The Marvic Penta II doesn't match as well as older Marchesini's...

The question though is what axle size and what rotor offset/boltpattern and what cush drive matches (and is it included?)

I'd say it's a 50-50 gamble... Could be real cheap, could be a royal PITA...

I got a reply from the seller. He doesn't seem to know much other than the wheels don't seem to be a direct bolt-on to a SuperHawk.

Yep, if they fit your bike I guess one could buy them and then resell once you figure out what they are for. A micrometer would be good to have, heck, even the size would help, 3.5 and 5.5 could be determined with a ruler by a total nimrod.

Weird that the three pictures in the auction are all the same side. Makes me wonder what you can't see.

So, in other words, these wheels will work for a VTR as much as they would work on any other bike.

there is a model # stamped on the inside of the wheel, if not the side where the date is.....

its not to hard to find out if they would fit the hawk, or how much it would take to make them.

either way the money is worth it, if you can read and make a few phone calls, at some point im sure you can make them work for you, or at least learn what they belong too, and then market them correct and sell them.

new those wheels were probably about 2750 bucks......

Hopefully not a damaged/bent side... He does after all say "they are not bent"... Unfortunately I don't really trust eBay sellers...

Yep, if they are undamaged they are most definetly worth the money... Not for me though as I have a pesky ocean in the way, making shipping expensive... But anyone else could either fit them on their bike or easily re-sell them around $1000 if they could tell a bit more about them...

he is a local guy ( beaverton, or iirc ). he has been trying to sell them on craigslist for a long time.

he must have had a superhawk because he was selling other parts so these are probably not a direct bolt-on...

i thought about buying them but would want them check out first, not sure if he'd be willing though? if your curious you could ask him to take them to EDR performance and get an evaluation, then i could call eric ( the owner ) and ask if they are in good shape.

Oh, not for me... I was more curios than interested... I'm watching eBay like a hawk for mag wheels to fit a CBR 1000RR or RC51 though, as those parts matches my bike better... Can't really justify the expense of new, and good used are far and few between...

Had I been local I'd probably figured out what they DO match and re-sold them, possibly after making it a complete set...
