I'm very happy with the set on my 2001 VTR. I had M-1 Sportecs on the bike before the M-3's. The bike steers better with the M-3's and they're generally more confidence inspiring. Warm-up is pretty quick. It's a very desirable quality up here in the Great White North. Mileage is as good or better than the M-1's.

Metzler Roadtec Z6's are my favorite so far. Lasted a long time...but gave me grip every time, great in cold weather as well (warmed up very quick)
Trying out the very cheap...but surprisingly impressive Shinko's right now and am loving these.

I have the pilot road 2's and have been more than happy with them in the hills. I'm sure my powers had more ultimate grip but not by much. I have to be pretty ham fisted if I want the rear to spin up

Semi retarted question... pardon my ignorance, I've been riding for about 8 months.

How dangerous is it to ride in wet weather with tires that are geared toward riding aggressively in dry weather?

It's only dangerous if you don't have grooves that extend the the sidewall. Some performance tires have tread in the center and smooth(slick) edges for more dry weather(track day) riding. This type of tire would not be the best choice for wet weather riding.
Not to say you couldn't ride in the wet with one, but it would definitely make you slow down and not lean over a lot. The water needs somewhere to go. That's what the grooves are for. The only retarded question is the one you don't ask.
