Looking for the Jersey Devil - Ride Report

No Pics Ride Report.

Day 1 - 8/2
Destination - Atlantic City, NJ From Easton, Pa

Why - Nope not gambling, but to see Clutch @ House of Blues- http://www.pro-rock.com/v6/main.html

Waited for heavy rain storms to subside Saturday - mean while did some chores around the casa to appease the wifey. Mapped a route with some known twistys in Western NJ (Rt. 579) and wanted to take all backroads to meet a buddy west of Toms River.

For those of you that do not known NJ or only know it from NJ Turnpike - I swear its mostly rural. As I native NJer who grew up in the shadows of NYC - I wouldn't have known it either w/out riding most of the upper half of the state, over the years. Also, NJ is small. I believe 47th in land mass, but 11th in population, thus the most densely populated in our Great Union.

Roads taken first leg was 579 into Rt. 31 then danced around Lawrenceville on 546. Then down onto Rt. 524 into Clarksburg / Millstone - this is horse country w/ many horse farms & some big houses. Then down Rt. 527 to Jackson.

In two hours time, I met my buddy & his bro. He had a route to take us through the Pine Barrens in south central NJ. Um there's nothing around. I know a town called Chatsworth, which is a ATV mecca, we passed through here, don't blink...

Some of roads taken on this leg were Rt. 70 & Rt. 563 into the heart of the Pines. Stopped at a famous local joint called Green Bank Inn. Lets just say this bar would fit in our Southern Climate very easy.

Anywoo, I know why I saw lots O' HD's on the road - there's no turns When they built these roads they just cut the pine trees & went straight. No reason to have any kind of sporting type moto around here.

Made it to AC w/out any problems. Met another friend who didn't want to ride in the rain from NYC.

Show was great. But if your not gambling in AC, there is no reason to go. I've not been down there in about 6 years or so & the place is still the same, except some of the older casinos are looking there age. Gambling started in 1978 and moneys raised were suppose to trickle down to residents, lets just say like Reganomics - its still waiting to trickle. The famous AC boardwalk was very active after midnight. But the thought that came to my buddy's (cager) mind was how depressing the area was to him. While I did not immediately get the same feeling, we both agreed how fortunate we both are. Him single in NYC & me in Eastern Pa w/ lots O' kids.

Day 2 - 8/3

My cager friend did not want to hang, thus jumped in his car to drive back to NYC @ about 2 am. I awoke to a beautiful morning - low humidity & about 70 w/ a perfect blue sky. Watched some of the F1 race from Hungary, left motel just before end, as I thought Massa had it in the bag.

Took similar roads back to Pa.

Rt 30 out of AC. Had breakfast at Phoenix Diner (sucked) to 563 north up around Fort Dix to Rt. 29 through Trenton. Was going cross over south of New Hope, Pa to take a famous moto road Rt.32, but time of day Noon and knowing that it would be full of cagers & HD's stayed on NJ side. Through Lambertville to Stockton took Rt. 523 back upto 579 Very nice roads with fast sweepers. Not too many cagers, what little there was, they were dispensed by twisting the throttle on the nice V-Twin. Taking sweepers at double the posted signage and reminding myself what a smart move it was for the suspension change done 2 years ago (RaceTech & Ohlins)

Stopped just above Delaware River in Carpentersville (Rt. 635) to buy some Jersey Sweet Corn at someones small farm stand (pay via honor system) Yummy BTW. Took 635 down to river, but no outlet. Some very cool but small houses just above the river. You would never know that its less 1 mile south of I-78. Very peaceful.

Overall great riding - missed all of the rain-sans about 1 minute worth in Pine Barrens. And no sighting of the Jersey Devil - except loser hockey team in Newark

Thats all folks - sorry no pics -nothing too great anywoo

Up Next - Indy MotoGP via Pa, WVa, Oh, Kent & Ind. Can't Wait!!!

Yeah, New Jersey, especially Northwestern Jersey, is beautiful country. Most people don't realize New Jersey still has redneck hillbillies.

Unfortunately, they are now greatly outnumbered by multiculturalists and Marxists.

Used to be a good place to live, but now has the worst taxes and gun laws of any state.

Best thing about Jersey now is that you can escape across the Delaware to Pa. in less than an hour from most any point in the state.

Yeah I'm originally from Newark. What a dump. I did not want to move to Western Jersey because of the 30 - 45 minute commute to work so I moved to California. Now my work commute is 1.5 hours one way...Go figure.... At least our gun laws are pretty laxxed. Well that's good and bad. Take a stupid 2 minute test and buy all the hand guns you want.

Woah did I stray...
