Looking at a 2004 Superhawk
I’m looking at a 2004 Superhawk this weekend. The seller raves about the condition and says I’ll be blown away by the condition of this bike at 80,000 miles. I’ve read that they can often go over 100k with good maintenance. Does anyone have experience with this bike and it’s longevity at 80k+ mileage?
A few here have more than 80k and all is well. If the maintenance was as advertised, frequent oil change, air filter, at least a couple of valve clearance checks, not red lined every gear all the time, the motor "should" be fine. What is going to be a question is the clutch, as in how much life is left, condition of the coolant system (hoses and such), condition of the brake and clutch fluid components, location where the bike spent it's life, was it kept in an enclosed space (garage). Another question is, are the any extra goodies that have been installed.
Remember it's 20 years old. Not trying to scare you off of it, but there is going to be some things needing replaced and that should be reflected in what you pay for it.

Another thing to keep in mind is the rear swingarm assembly and all of the needle bearings on the various moving parts.
My VTR has 43,000 miles on it and I'm restoring it and upon taking the swing arm assemblies apart the bearings needed some much needed grease and cleaning.
The seals were good enough to not need replacing but that's another area of concern with that many miles.
Most owners won't go that far to maintain the area of the swing arm and shock mounts so keep this in mind.
Not sure what this gentleman is selling the bike for or how much mechanical ability you have but get all the information you can on device records and chassis maintenance.
Best of luck and these are amazing bikes with so many good reviews on how good they are on the road or track.

If I could tag him, Brett aka skokievtr has eclipsed that mark. Maybe send him a PM to get advice.
Id just give normal motorcycle tips. How one cared for the bike is paramount. No way it won’t show signs of that many miles. Having been well cared for, it can definitely go beyond that mark.
Just as a heads up, very lower mileage Hawks are available in my area. Is this one selling for cheap or have you looked at others close?
Welcome to the forum BTW.
