The latest Motorcyclist magazine has a short article on this also. Looks like the cat is officially out of the bag.
I hope they still offer those free demo rides. On second thought, I hope they don't.

FINALLY!!!! I asked at Daytona years ago when the XB9 first came out why they didn't put a v-rod engine in it and the Buell rep said "it wouldn't fit" and I laughed at him. I was like "okay... so if you're designing a new bike anyway why not make it fit?" Yeah definitely will be keeping a close eye on this one. Harley's are cool and Buell has done wonders with that engine in there but it'll be nice to see a real sportbike engine in one of their bikes...FINALLY

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo....
Now there is a buell that can beat the hawk.
At least it isn't powered by a snow blower engine, but crap. Now I have to listen to the dueche bags with buells gloat about something they don't have but is faster then mine. I'm not happy, not at all
I guess that I wouldn't have a problem with it if they hadn't started with the scrap heap motors made by harley, cause that is where my real hate is. Buell had a lot of good ideas, right up until the word harley. Tank in frame is a great idea, hell, they even have inverted forks. Admittedly they have a shortish wheelbase, and they have an extra heavy oil-in-swingarm, but that should be alleviated with this new model having a real engine. I just wonder how many of the Harley a-holes will claim this as one of their own.

hmm... Hope the styling grows on me... cause right now my FUGLY meter is being pegged. Function has a way of overcoming those things for me though, so if its kick ***, I can learn to forgive some of that.

You know I really don't understand the hate for Harley engines.. I mean things like OHC etc were invented in the 1900's, it's not like a "modern" engine is all that modern. The fact that they can get ~100hp from a air cooled pushrod engine is a testament to some decent design effort. True there are other ways of doing things, but really most my buddies that ride harleys get better gas milage than my SH, and usually get there just as fast because the speed limit don't change, and smoky watches us all.
Edit: first DOHC engine 1912 so DOHC = ancient design too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOHC

Honda marketing is definitely missing the boat, I'm thinking of the overall V-twin success, zuki SV-650/sv1000, new yamy MT-1, buells, The dukes. V-twins aren't cheap to build good, the slowness from Honda to update their sport twins is just keeping them off the map. Maybe they built these bikes too soon and did not sell enough, but now is the time because the market is open on twins.
WTF they are doing, HELLO HONDA MY BIKE IS GETTING OLD !!!

Unfortunately, for the high volume Japanese manufacturers, V-twin sportbikes and sport-touring bikes are not a sufficiently big market, at least in North America. It seems that most bikes in NA are sold by image (either the sportbikes sold to spec-sheet squids, or customs sold to the "Posers R Us" crowd) as opposed to function. Unfortunately, the type of bike most of us are looking for or would buy lies a bit out of mainstream. All this to say that I wouldn't hold my breath for a new VTR to appear....

Buell did what nobody should have in the first place! Use an 1957 engine in a new bike.
True the new Harleys get great gas milage, I know I own two of them. It almost doesn't make sense they weight twice as much and make half the horse power.
But the Buell cost 2k more than any Jap bike and it can't finish the race. They brake. Remember win on Sunday and sell on Monday.

The Buell looks mighty good to me. They have always intrigued me in many ways, but, like many guys on this forum, I have been put off by the low tech engines. Looks like that problem is solved. That Rotax engine looks quite a bit more compact than the SH engine.
