Just found out about...

What's up guys/gals,

Well, I have been riding for about a year since I moved out here to SoCal from NY, and needless to say I am never going back to 4 wheels
I currently ride a cruiser(wanted to learn how to ride well before getting a sportbike), but it's time for an upgrade. I just found out about the VTR 1000 Superhawk. Sounds like a perfect bike for my lifestyle.
Well, I am going to look at my first one today, here is the ebay listing that expired:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...234027992&rd=1

What things should I look for? ANy help is appreciated. He is asking around $4000/negotiable. I think they are going for around 3000-3500 though, correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks,
Asleep

Well....with 20k+ miles, you should listen for the CCT's.
Ask about his oil changing routine.
Has the bike been re-jetted with the exhaust?

I would ask 3200...and go from there.

He gave me the number to call and check with them.
I agree, trust no one. Ebay is a quick way to sell a junker, even though you can find great things sometimes.
I have a reliable cruiser with only 6300 miles, and really don't want to buy someone elses problems.
Thanks for the reply,
Asleep

cam chain tensioner. On some Superhawks, usually around 20k, the ccts need to be replaced. You will hear a loud, and someone correct me if im wrong, clicking and almost banging noise coming from the engine.

Well then go with 3000...but it might be hard to get him to drop the bike a grand

buy from someone on this forum is my suggestion. hopefully there is something available, look in the classifieds section. Or, if youre really in love with it, it would be worth the peace of mind to have a mechanic look it over for a couple bucks....

I told him last week I could do $3500 at most, depending on condition. Then he told me yesterday its negotiable from there. He said he really needs to sell it soon. He is driving it 20 miles to meet me.

I really appreciate the advice! I have seen cbr's with 6k that need new motors because people don't know how to ride them. What scares me is someone could have bought it on Ebay at 5,800 miles, right before the motor went

I will keep my eyes out around here, I am in no rush!

Well, I would have to agree with Condor. I found out about this forum a little too late...and ended up paying too much for mine. Great deals pop up on this forum all the time.

My first bike and it's scary as hell. I rode my neighbors ex500 and enjoyed that a whole lot more. With that said I am selling my bike and will even trade across the board if you've got an ex500 or something similar. Please don't low ball. Bike has 23k miles. I've never droped it "oddly enough" and the title is still clean on it. Te seat is torn though and it needs new brake pads and I guess brake oil. I put maybe 100 miles on the bike.gimme a call I won't respond to emails. agari 415-831-2657 415-724-6190

I asked, and his response was...
"I have had the bike for about a year. Like I said I bought it from Mountain Motorsports. I have put 4000 miles on it, I bought it with a little over 16,000 miles. I had the oil changed 3 times to by a friend of mine that does all the work on his bike. When I took it in to the dealer I wanted to make sure that the inspection was done by a dealer. From what Mountain told me it was re-jetted, the exhaust was on their when I bought it. I had the dealer put the new front tire, replace the hoses that were cracked and adjust the chain. That is all that they found wrong with the bike. Let me know if you have any other questions. "

I don't think so. But then again...he's not the only owner...sounds like he knows nothing about the bike. So this could actually be a great deal. It's a classic situation of someone either becoming bored or scared with their bike and just want to get rid of it and are willing to lose a lot of money in the process.

Well I will let you all know how I make out after I look at it tonight...

Also, most of my trips are about 30miles 1 way, think the VTR is a comfortable bike for this?
And insurance, is as bad any sport bike?

60 miles round trip is nothing. I ride at least 150 miles whenever I bring the bike out.
Insurance, for me at least...and I'm 18, is $35 a month. (my insurance company doesnt really know how to handle bikes.)

Seems like a good deal, and at that price you can afford to fix almost anything that's wrong with it and still come out in the green. It's either a '99 or '00
