Jardine High Mounts?

Is anyone running the Jardine High Mounts with street baffles? While I have everything torn apart I am considering the move to a better looking exhaust. I am running my stockers with holes drilled all around the plate that surrounds the exit tube. The have a good deep growl on accel and the decel is really good. I just hate the way they look and the front header is an old Two Bros chrome peeled POS. As long as I have to remove the rear header pipe to do the rear shock it makes sense to me to the change now. Has anyone heard these?

I have the rt1's high mount race baffle .I considered the street baffles , but I wanted something a little loud ,and believe me the race baffles are not that loud . I have gotten a couple compliments on them lately! For the money they are great ! Got mine from A-Z powersellers for $514.00 to my door. http://www.a-zpowersellers.com/Searc...18&Search.y=13 Seems like that had a special about a month ago but it must be over.

Nope, hrc! The price is exactly the same for both. The street baffles are $414 (being closed out) and the race baffles are a hundred bucks higher. I do not want a open header sound - too loud - but I don't want it to sound like a moped either

Ah , thats what the special was . I knew they emailed about a month ago with some deal ? (of course after I had already bought mine) Have you heard the street & race baffle jardines ? I swear the race baffles are not that loud. If I get time I will try to make a sound byte ( but you really cant tell how something sounds unless you hear it in person) My guess is they probably are quieter than debaffled stocks .

Thanks for the input. I found your post from back in October or so when you got yours and put them on. God, this exhaust thing is SOOOO subjective. Sound bites are ok but it's hard to record the real sound with noise-cancelling or auto-gaining mikes. People tell me now they can hear me coming for a couple blocks away. That's probably the upper bound limit for how loud I want them to be. I hate to say it but it really is almost more the look than the sound in some ways. I just think the bike looks so much better with high mounts.

Yeah , I remember saying I thought they would be louder. LOL . Good luck! I think either way ( street or race ) you wont be dissapointed. Especially with the look of hi mounts.

I sorta got a charge out of the sales guy too! He said that something happened to the web listing saying that it was free freight but it didn't come up so he said "Just write in the order memo space that Zak says free freight!" I had to laugh. There's only a 1/4" difference in the exit cones between race and street. He says they may swirl the streets a bit more but it's still a straight through pipe. Thanks for all your input. The looks are really worth $400 to me so I think I might do this after all. He called Jardine to confirm stock and said they had "lots".

You could always get the race baffle and get the street core inserts later If they are to loud. Thats what Zak told me !( hell of a salesman) Of course if you might end up spending a good bit more money that way.....Buying race baffles at $514 + $60 for the baffles to turn them into streets versus..$414 for streets to begin with! Streets for the money make more sense I guess. If you get the streets let me know how they sound versus your drilled stocks...

I've got a few days to work on this. I gotta get the front end back on the bike before I can put the *** end up to do the shock. That old header just looks horrible - half chrome half black - Captain says there's no way to polish it. I have the stock header that the PO took off to put the TBR cans on. When they blew out he just eBayed a couple stockers and had them welded to the TBR middies. I guess I'll start polishing on the stock header while I'm waiting for the forks to get back from New York. At least, it will be easy to get at the front part of the exhaust and I can unbolt and remove everything except for the rear header until I get the front end back on.

I'm running hi-mounts. They are loud and honestly I think I prefer the stock configuration in terms of the position of the cans.

I suppose it's possible but ALOT of(i.e. too much) work to strip/grind the chrome off-I've never tried it. Any idea if the header is steel or stainless underneath? Stainless can be polished. Steel pipe actually can be too but will also start rusting immediately-don't bother. Not sure how much it may cost but maybe if there is a place near you that chrome plates they can strip it off the old nasty plating for not too much $. You could then either replate it, jet hot coat it, polish it (not if it's steel), or paint it.

And just as you said exhaust sound is EXTREMELY subjective. My first superhawk got the round black Jardine highmounts and I couldn't believe how loud I THOUGHT they were. It wasn't until I actually had another superhawk and went straight from low mount D&D's (LOUD!) to the same high mount Jardines (still loud but MUCH quieter-was riding around everywhere 1k rpm higher and not even realizing it) that I realized they weren't that bad. Again it's hard to define what "loud" is. The only aftermarket exhaust I've ever heard that I would call fairly quiet was a yosh street slip on on a 4 cyl. I've never heard anything on a superhawk that I would call "quiet" besides the stock exhaust. But there are different levels of "loud" and if nothing else I can tell you that D&D's are the loudest. If you're not into making alot of noise I'm sure you'll be happy with the street baffles. I'm sure they still sound nice.

Thanks, Captain! And you're right on with both posts. I'm not sure about the TBR pipes, where the chrome has worn off - they are black and do NOT respond in any way to polishing. The uppers for both the front and the rear cylinder are totally black and the only chrome left is down near the middies. I thought about sand blasting them but I need something to put on the bike in the mean time. That's why I was going to buff up the old stockers and then go with the High Mount Jardines. I can refinish the TBR header in my spare time and when the polishing needs a "take off" refresh, I can go back to the refinished TBR. I'm really thinking about a sandblast then powder coat black. I have a set of rims that I want to do in the same theme. They are polished outer lips and rim with black centers - like Shayne did from Australia on his rims.

Thumper is an unknown quantity at this point
I have had my RT-1 high mount street baffle model for about 4 years now. They are easy to keep looking new. Just use some Mothers aluminum polish occasionally and polish then back up as needed. Keep stuff lioke simple green or other degresser products away from them or you may run the risk of streaking the aluminum finish.

For what its worth mine have gotten a little louder over time.

The brakets are pretty trick and since i do not double anyone ever i too the rear pegs and brakets off the bike. Makes for a cleaner look on the bike.

Hey sharp ride Thumper. Funny when I had Jardines the brackets were what everyone used to ask me about-everyone thought they were so cool and asked where I got them. They do look pretty trick.
