Installed K&N air filter, problems???
alright, so i was riding around my bike the other week, and it started running on one cylinder. At first i thought it might have fouled a plug because of a horribly nasty air filter, so i bought a K&N filter, because thats all they had in stock, and when i took the air box lid off i figured out what actually was the problem, so it turns out it was the clip on the needle broke in half. Alright, so i replaced that clip (on the fourth clip from the top, like someone on this forum reccomended, unless it was supposed to be fourth from the pointy side, than that might be my problem), and put the new filter in. Well, now it seems to have like two annoying flat spots that were never there before. Has anybody ever experienced these types of problems when installing the K&N filter? thanks

I did with a BMC filter. I fixed it with the 185/190 jets in the K&N (Dynojet) jet kit and raised the needles all the way. That's with Jardine high mount pipes. I hear the K&N is a little more difficult to tune for than the BMC as it flows a bit better.

It's been a while since I've read Dyno-Jet's instructions and then it was of only passing interest since I didn't have a K&N filter in my setup but IIRC adding the filter requires a bump up on the jets if you coming from a stock filter and aftermarket pipes.
But where are the flat spots? Their trouble shooting sections says a common mistake is trying to tune with jets when it's the needles. I'd suggest going to 5 first.

the flat spots are around 3500-4500 if i can recall. Its weird though, when i first installed the filter i didn't notice the flat spots, now its a huge freakin pain, and i can hardly ride the bike cause it bugs me so much

Do a search for the radio shack washer mod. I believe it's around .020 inches or so but I could be very wrong so don't go by that.
If you don't have any washers below the clips right now, you might want to try raising the needles to the 6th slot instead. The washer mod is intended for stock needles.
