I leave mine in 1st gear at all times. Its good for about 70mph which pretty much keeps you within speed limits.

That's a fairly odd question. Are you talking all the time or what?

Is there a need to take your bike to redline all the time? +1 on the odd question.

The higher the price of gas, the more I short-shift.

+1 My bike gets crappy MPG as it is. The lower the shift the better, for commuting anyway.

just depends on the type of riding you're doing...if i'm hitting the twisties I'm in one gear at higher revs most of the time

around town, i shift short around 4 or 5k...better on gas and draws less cop attention

I hardly ever redline the bike. Leaving my neighborhood, loooooowwwwww RPMs (aftermarket pipes). On ramp to freeway, 7K to 8K sometimes. Mostly in between there for the rest of my riding.

I redlined mine ONCE...... in second gear. The tail busted loose halfway though the acceleration, and I wasn't at full twist. I decided to respect the vtwin powerband and keep off 6-7 and it goes plenty fast ad hard.

I'm glad the question was asked because my vfr750 never had a problem to redline, but the lighter more torquey hawk seems to like to spin the wheel. I guess since i'm a larger fella 200 lbs the tire didnt come up. they are pilot pro's though so I dont think it was the compound that made it slide.
After that and the afore mentioned Pump-raping I am also on the down low.

Depends on the situation, time, etc... That is kind of an odd question. It's like asking if you ram your old lady hard in bed. Some nights you do, some nights you don't and some nights you're just looking for oral

and boy does she like it hard... let me tell you.... only wish my own wife would do half of the things she does....

ooppppppppppppppssss... did I say that?

I shift early to save gas, but when i play, I prefer the 5K plus, and shifts somewhere close to redline, but don't typically pin it out...

Red Line, Whats that.

i thought you didn't shift till you hit the rev limiter and the engine started to miss.

Seriously, most engines lhit peak power before red line, so why run it to red line, shift to next gear for more power.

I don't know if all hawks do it, but mine makes power all the way until the limiter. Last time I had it on the dyno the guy was amazed because the curve never dropped until the engine did. Still doesn't mean I take it all the way.

On a remote road with no traffic and no side access I have tested red line in 2nd several times and 3rd once.

2nd is good for 95mph and its still pulling when I shift then back off. 3rd hits 115mph.

I've never spun the rear and I weigh 150. Maybe there was some oil or debris on the road.

I shift different times riding differently. Most riding though, I shift around 5 or 6k. Mines a toy, so I'm not worried about gas mileage. I don't want to have to buy another though, so I try to drive it nice sometimes.

I short shift pretty much everywhere I ride unless I'm on the boiler. The bike doesn't have to be bouncing off the redline to keep the momentum up like smaller displacement I4s .

Gotta love the torque plateau this bike has.

I've managed to break the rear loose once, was gonna try to clutch it up in 2nd gear on an old tire, and managed to spin it at ~55mph.

Usually if I'm riding to the limit (at the track) she will talk to me. Then sometimes I talk back.
