Holy f***!
Hard to give the guy a hard time about it after seeing him go through that.
Personally I'd be headed for the hospital, not looking for my digital camera.
I'm going to have nightmares in my sleep now.
Reminds me of this one time I put my car up on jackstands and let it idle in 6th gear to hand polish the wheels...

There are so many hazards in DIY car/bike repair. Before you label this guy an idiot, first think of all the risks you take with improper tools, shortcuts, and lack of eye protection.
I've come close to lighting myself on fire and various other close calls that could have been avoided. My brother had a leaky floor jack nearly pin him under his Chevelle. There are countless stories of a wife or kid coming home to find dad dead under his car, either because it crushed him to death, or because he was trapped there for days and bled to death or was asphyxiated.
Stay safe on and off the bike!
