how important is it to have matching tires?

not sure if it is really important to have matching tires or not.. my front tire has lots of life left but the back tire is bald. if i get 2 different tires it shouldnt affect me though right? i have a metzeler sportec m-3 high performance supersport tire on the front but i would rather have a sport touring on the back for for life..

usually frowned upon... but many people do it. i've come to learn that people that are going to rail their bike don't ask this question so i'll skip the verbiage of all the possibilities.

Are you planning on any hard cornering? Probably a bad idea.

Are you mostly going to wheelie? No problem.

Lot's of people mix and match tires with no ill effects. You should be fine as long as you're not pushing too hard.

i like to push hard quite a bit so i think ill get another m-3. this bike tears tires up comin out of corners! motosport magazine has them listed at like $155 which doesnt seem too bad.. but i need one asap and cant sit around for a week bargain shopping. for anyone who has not used motosport, i recommend it! free 2 day express shipping on orders over $100. they send me a catalog 4 times a year. i get one for spring, summer, fall, and winter.

I'll give you my personal experance. I've mixed tires(all race compounds) and have had good and bad results. I had dunlops that were a year a part that were horibble. I have a 209front that went on with a metzler rear and it was butter. I think it all depends on the way that manufactur designed that tire chariteristics that year. fronts and rear are ment to work together. if you have two oddball tire already payed for I say mount them and give it a try. if your buying new get the tires that are ment to go together and forget all the guess work because mind you i don't have to pay to change tires.

My bike is the stock '03 Candy Tahitian Blue. Nicest blue color I've seen on any bike - or car - for that matter. I polished the wheels to make it pop a little bit. Tried uploading a pic, but they exceed the measly 97.7kb allowed size. Not sure how anyone could post any pics at all with that restriction!!
