be happy with 2 cylinders....

cause doing an oil change on an inline 4 is a damn disaster. i just spent an hour and a half doing the oil change on my gixxer. the belly pan was off already because i had the shock out last night. first off the filter sits behind the header and there isnt much room back there, you have to pry the header out to to remove the filter, and even then its tight. and it doesnt end there, you need to remove the oil cooler line and bolts holding it to get the filter out because it doesnt fit out any side. complete pain in the ***, getting it in is the same thing, if that header sat a half inch further it would be perfect, but it doesnt. i miss the 15 minutes the oil changes took on the hawk.

I remember my first road bike, a 1982 Seca 650 (remember those? sweet bike in its day....), had two drains plugs, the second of which was located in the rear/tranny portion of the sump in a convenient location which happened to be DIRECTLY over the exhaust crossover. Quite easy to get the drain plug out with a swivel socket.... putting it back in led to some of my finest high-blood pressure sessions.....

man i bet, i was soaked in sweat half way through. im lucky that the drain plug is at the first set of collectors and drains fine. also the filter that was on the bike had a nut on it so you could remove it with a wrench, its a k&n, that thing was nice for undoing it with a wrench but made it that much tighter. glad its done. and dyno session monday night. see if i can top the numbers i made the other week.

they were low, 148, but in my defence i had 3 leaking header gaskets, leaking bad too they were black when i yanked them, the plugs were fouled and the guy didnt have a fan so i had no air going into the motor. thats been fixed already, i expect my initial run to be low 150's on monday unless the humidty keeps up. its been in the mid 30s here the last 3 weeks and was at or over 30 when i dynoed, so i expect her to make low 150s now that its runnign right and with a dyno that has a fan.

heres the dyno sheet

and a video of me running my buddies 07 cbr 1k with full akro system and bazzaz, he made 154, started at 100 shut down around 300, this is the same day as the dyno so she wasnt fixed yet. but i tell you with it not leaking and new plugs it runs a whole lot better guess the ram air effect kicked in and gave me the extra few hp that the dyno couldnt

and a shot of the header gasket, you can see 3 are black, two of them were really bad on the head.

On the only I4 I've owned, '86 CB700SC Nighthawk S, there was enough space between 2 and 3 header pipes to get the filter out and in easily. And that's was even with the full stainless Supertrapp 4 into 1 I put on it at 600 miles.

Maybe it's just a Suzuki I4 thing. Sure sucks though.

yeah its tight, i thought about going out the front, it wasnt happening. i talked to a buddy of mine who has an r1 said he has the same issue with his and ended up running a shorter filter. i may look into doing the same thing to mine.

been doing some reading, found this

Sport Rider-RAM AIR: More power for the Kawasaki ZX-9R through forced air induction

says they tested the ram air on a zx9, 123 hp before a high pressure fan, 131 after. thats a huge difference

Great news next time you're going 150 mph... like on the track. At notmal highway speeds, however, the difference is rather minimal. I am no physicist but it's said that air resistance increases at the square of speed, so I can logically assume that the pressure benefit does as well. So, based on this, you would have 4 times less benefit at 75 mph, so about 2 hp (mind you, none of us would throw that away, but it's still fairly small).....

agreed, and only one way to tell, the fans at this dyno should simulate a good 60 mph wind, theyre pretty strong and he runs two of them. so they should help out a little, plus the bike is running better now so im hoping the baseline is higher than 148. im happy if we can get into the mid 150s on monday
