gentlemen, my new bike, bring your kleenex

what i have here is my new to me bike. 2001 gixxer 1000. not just any kind of gixxer. its one bad mother flocker. full carbon fiber fiber, 24 liter carbon gas tank, not a wrap its actual carbon. full arrow exhaust system, yosh kit ecu with ems, ap racing calipers with matching pads, braided line, 320 mm rotors, brembo 19x20 master, ohlins forks with superbike internals, ohlins shock, newer style wheels and swing arm. 520 chain with vortex sprockets. +1 in the rear. gpi, slipper clutch, fully adjustable rear sets, gp style shifter which im still getting used to. and a bunch of other goodies. this is my buddy johns old bike, the guy who built my hid projector for me. he used to have a shop and built this as his shop/race bike. bike has 8500 km on it. its fast as a summa bitch. how fast. well my other buddy has a brand new r1, rated at 180 hp. we did several pulls on the weekend and this thing walked him hard. his words were "it destroyed the r1" when describing the beating it laid to it. and it did. even when he'd get a jump or if we were merging onto the hiway and he'd hammer it first and put a gap on me this bike had no issues reeling him back in. like i said, she flies, stops like theres a wall helping you and handles awesome. heres the only shot i have of it from the day i picked it up. ill get more up in the next day or so. its the bike on the left. the bike on the right is johns 200 hp stroker gixxer.

Very, very nice!!!! Buh-bye VTR!!!!!!

The only downside I can see will be trying to keep your driver`s licence (especially with the laws that are presently in force in Ontario)..... Good luck!

congrats! Sounds like you were in one of those "right place at the right time" situations. Very sick bike.

Thanks guys. She's a blast for sure and i can't get over the power it makes. As for the laws Im not too worried. They can't give you a ticket if they can't catch you. Lol.

Oh and a little preview for next year. I acquired a little go fast toy for it that goes on over the winter. Give you a hint. T25.

(Cough...cough) Say what? Holy ***** man. You got some, er...*****. I'm going to assume that you really hate rear tires with any semblance of tread and ya must make them slicks in the least amount of time and most amount of fun as possible. Am I close sir?

Haven't had it on the scale but it should be right around 300 lbs give or take a few. Its a light bike to begin with. John said it laid down just shy of 160. The ems is un hooked because windows 7wouldn't connect to my cable but once that's sorted we can load 3tunes into it and i can switch them on the fly. As for next year the goal is 200 whp. Figure that's enough to out run everything i come across and still tame enough where i won't kill myself. Lol. Johns race bike makes right around 200 hp and i was fine on that. Mind you it tried to lift me at 250 kph but it was fun

Congrats. No tissue needed here. GSXR = dime a dozen.
If you plan on using more hp than its got now on public roads, it's only a matter of time before we see what a wadded up carbon gixxer looks like.

Thanks. Id rather have too much power and use throttle control than not enough plus it'll be fun for the real big tracks just to open it up and get that holy **** reaction from everyone

While this bike is obviously NOT stock, here are the Sport Rider mag numbers for the stock 2001:
141.3 hp @ 11,000, 75.2 lb-ft @ 8250, 437 lbs wet, 408 lb dry

437 wet? Specs i found claimed 375 dry and 160 hp.

2001 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 specifications and pictures

don't think she'd have 100 pounds in fluid. Regardless i know the tank saves alot of weight as does the body and carbon can hanger brackets etc. Ill get her or a scale soon because Im curious too. Knowing its 375 dry i bet its a good bit under that wet. Think the wife will mind if i use the house scale? Lol. As for power John said it was just shy of 160. Im planning on hitting the dyno once we put a map on the ems and seeing what she lays down. Whatever it is its enough to lay multiple beatings to a brand new r1

Mfr dry weight numbers are typically that, dry, as in no fluids whatsoever. Not sure if they have a tool kit or battery installed either. The similar number quoted for the VTR is 423 lb while the wet (ready to ride) weight numbers I have seen are from 477 to 480 lbs. In other words, a stock 2001 GSX-R100o is about 35 lbs lighter than the VTR and yours is likely significantly lighter yet. As for power, the 160 hp number is at the crank. For comparison purposes, the new Bimmer S1000RR claims 193 hp at the crank but delivers 176 bhp.
In the end, numbers are just that, numbers. What matters is how it performs and yours obviously gets the job done in a heart-pounding way Congrats!

Agreed. I could have sworn i saw it listed at 340 pounds which is why i figured just over 300 with the weight reduction. As for the hp it was on a dyno just shy of 160. Regardless of what it makes or weighs it goes like hell lol

Should you ever be so inclined as to ride it east (to say, Montreal), I would be more than happy to take it for a spin and give you my feedback

I know what you`re thinking "what a kind and selfless offer", well, it`s just the type of guy I am......

Generosity is my middle name, lol

BTW, I lived in your area (Stroud, actually) for two years (1999-2000; lived in Sudbury for 4 years prior, and grew up in the Kirkland Lake area before that) and am actually due to go back to visit..... all I need is time.......

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread and enjoy your new ride!!!!!

Congrats. Sounds like a nice bike. Is that a gold chain or does it have rust on it?

nice find it sounds like a blast. how does it compare to vtwin torque though? any comparison you can speak to regarding an 1198 in this department?

next time you have the tank off take a look inside and also pull out the fule pump, try and fit you hand in there and see if the wall of the tank feels soft/can leave a gouge with your finger nail etc. carbon tanks ( any composites for that matter) tend to go to crap insidiously due to ethanol in fuels. some have reported better success with liners but I am skeptical of them too.

thanks man. torque wise, i hate to say it but it feels stronger mid range than the twin does. its a different kind of power. the gearing makes it hard to compare. ill do my best to convert to mph. 1st does about 88 mph, second about 112, third around 140 mph. this ting will do its limited top speed of 186 mph in 5th gear. but thats not even redline in 5th. this one has the limiter removed. so who knows how fast itll go. im not sure if ill find out unless i get onto a track with a huge straight. for power, it pulls good, second gear pulls like a raped mule and makes it feel like your eyes are being sucked into the back of your head. roll on second at 4000 rpm and above and she gets up and goes. now the reason for throwing the gearing out, with the vtr id crusie around town at 3500 rm 3rd or 4th gear depending on the speed limit. with this thing i can cruise around town in second so if i give it gas it goes and doesnt give me any issues. third gear around town is no slouch either but if youre compairing gear to gear the twin is better around town in third, but i can use second and barely work the motor. its a different kind of power. the twin is fun dont get me wrong, its torquey sounds cool and is fun to ride, but this thing just makes angry raw power. ill have to get a video of it, maybe something with good audio, the sound this thing makes with the arrow exhaust is just beyond words. it screams it yells it makes babies cry. and then you go over 3/4 throttle and it gets really mad, lol. i may try to get a video of me revving it a little once my wife leaves in about half an hour, gonna pull it out for some pictures so i may fire it up and see if my cell phone can capture some of the noise it makes.

8541Hawk will become famous soon enough
Well all I can say is get the suspension dialed for your weight & riding style and then don't ever forget what you are on..... or it could hurt realllly bad.

Not any type of put down just a concerned bit of advice.... or warning.

Have fun with it and remember that GSXR stand for Get Some X Rays.....
