G'day

and salutations.

Name is Bruce Cee, hailing from the east coast of Australia.
Found this forum a few weeks ago after deciding my next roadbike was going to be a VTR1000, found a nice one 2 weeks ago and bought it.

Bit of history
Been riding bike since my Grandad bought me a Puch 75 at 4, Mum, Dad, stepDad, grandafthers and uncles all riders at one time or another, My various uncles and cousin all lived the lifestyle and I suppose i have too for 42 years now.
married with 2 kids, both ride dirtbikes, Mrs Cee used to ride roadbikes, but gave up 10 years ago when the second Child arrived and seems content to be a pillion these days.
We have dirtbikes and ride mild mx comp and extreme trail stuff, me I have always owned roadies as well since 16 until 3 years ago and I had a mid-life and sold them convinceing myself I was going to be content with dirt only........... well that didn't work so here I am.

having owned mostly frentic high HP roadies from Modded RZtwins, RZV4s, RGVs and Gammas, ZXR7s, and a highly modded big HP and cubed '92 GSX1100R which i owned for near 16 years, the conversion to a twin was a bit of a planned moved, it was planned to be a 900ss.. but then i took a suzuki TL for a ride and was stoked.. then a VTR and was hooked.

The bike?

An '02 VTR1000 in blue, polished frame, rims, gutted exhausts, dropped triples, heavy springs in forks, heavier spring in rear and 6mm spacer mod, apparently has reground cams (according to previous and original owner, a kawasaki dealer no less) not sure myself cause it feels a bit out of tune compared to my inline fours and could be in need of a good tune.

Do I like it?

You betchya, best thing for fun on the froad with your pants on, torquey, light (well carries it's weight sdown low) handles nicely, sorted and just plain old fun to ride.

So here I am, will pester you knowledgeable folk with a million questions , despite having trained as a performance techie about a million years ago we all live and learn every day.......and I have lots I wanna learn...

How are things now in the aftermath of the floods?

Thanks you blokes, no word on the Mad max remake Sheldon

Nekkid, bad bad big bad and now a category 4 cyclone is about to hit up the road tonight, destroyed homes, lives lost, but the people banded together and helped each other out, heaps of everyday heroes emerged and no dooubt again in the next 24 hours.
We were lucky just south of the border, a few things washed away, no-one perished but huge repair bills.

Most of the Wifes family lives in the path of tonights doings and the past few weeks, but they're hardy and stoic people who just get in and get on with the job.

Well, I'm not saying it isn't out of tune, but if you ride a VTR like you would a high revving four, or a twostroke it will most definetly feel like it's out of tune...

You are not supposed to rev it to redline, it makes peak power below that... On a stock bike somewhere at 7-7.5k (can remember exact peak)... Keep the revs dow, ride the wave of torque and it migth feel better... Try it... If not, have a look see and tune it up...

Thanks Tweety, it's actually the exxact opposite, I've been riding it like a little old lady and I find it snatches and jerks around under around 3200 rpm, smooth idle, not missfiring.. just really lumpy and some very metallic noises emitting from the front, I read up on the CCT issues and am going to replace them in the next few weeks as i once had a yamaha cafe racer lunch itself at idle when the CCT failed so I made a manual one for it and had no further probs.
I did think it may have just been a pair of 500cc slugs just lopping up and down, but just wanted to make sure. Bike looks like it has been religiously looked after... even babied and has around 28000 miles on it (45000 Kilometres) so is far from worn out.

Thanks for the welcome too you blokes seem pretty switched on

Well, if it's snatchy in the low end, it's either a simple case of cleaning jet's and airfilter... Or if the airfilter isn't the OEM Honda one, it could be due to the bike being re-jetted for an aftermarket filter... That's usually a bad idea, do a search on jetting and K&N filters and you will find a whole bunch of info...

The below 3k rpm roughness worried me when I first rode my VTR as well... just keep it above that and the "slugs" and huge carbs are much happier.

And welcome!
