Fueling splash guard

I don’t know if anyone uses something like a slash guard or not,
but am interested in your opinion about them if you do.

I know McCuff makes one for about 20$ and as usual, advertising
makes it look like they have reinvented the wheel, however, if it
does the job more than once, well, that’s something to work with.

There is also the option of making your own. And yes, you can also
try and be super-duper careful, but, that only works once in a while,
no matter what, you will have droplets of fuel splash out onto the tank.

LMK your thoughts

McCuff® "No Splash, No Spill, Motorcycle Fill" Everyone Wants One! No Clicking Nozzles! More Miles from Tank! Top-Off Gas Tank EZ, Unique Motorcycle Biker Gift Birthdays, Christmas! Gas up your motorcycle with ease! Avoid Gas Spillage.

I always refuel with gas nozzle almost horizontal and pointed forward and off to the left a little...works pretty good for me.

I remember seeing a thread a while back, and most of us here found that we did the same thing.

As for the little droplets of fuel, every gas station I've ever been to has paper towels. If you don't feel like cleaning your bike, grab a paper towel, place it gently on top of your gas tank over the fill hole, grab yer nozzle, poke it through the paper and proceed to fill up the tank. I know what you're thinking, you can't see the fuel level to know when to stop. I thought of that, just pull the paper towel down a bit on a corner and peer inside. If it's dark out and you can't see inside, make sure to use a match. Just be carefull not to start the paper towel on fire. I've done that a few times! Phew! Man, you would think the gas station clerks were going to die or something. All screamin' at you, hittin' red buttons 'n stuff. Sheesh...

Ok so where do you put the thing after it has saved 1 drop from landing on the tank?
Personally I'm happy to take a bit more care.

If you're going to use the McCuff, it WILL get fuel on it, and most people will use the paper towels provided by the gas station to wipe it off. You may as well use some paper towels to begin with and not haul around another object under the seat. Just my two cents.
