Fuel level sensor dead ...again!

For the second time I'm stuck with a fuel sensor that reports empty when the tank is full. I just get the dreaded flashing lower level bar.

I installed a new sensor unit last fall and all was well until I filled up last week. I must have bumped the sensor with the filler hose at the gas pump. Dam these things are flimsy.

I checked the connectors, they are tight and it doesn't seem to have tweaked the float arm.

IIRC, the sensor unit for a 2002 SH has a small flat bar wrapped with coils of thin wire. The float arm moves a wiper arm across to the bar to adjust the circuit resistance. Kind of like a potentiometer. (Going from memory here) I'm betting one of those small wires got busted again.

Has anyone ever soldered one of these things back together? I'm not looking forward to spending another $60 for a new one if it can be repaired.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Maybe thats what is wrong with mine. All along I thought it was a electrical problem. Maybe you could talk/type me through what I should be looking for. I dont know anyone around here that has one to go look in their gas tank.

Thanks for the help

If you are sticking the nozzle into the tank enough to hit the sensor, you're doing it wrong. That's about all the help I can be.

Make sure you check your ground, clean it up with a little sandpaper. Just a thought

Are you being serious or did I miss the sarcasm bus?
