The forum is REAL SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW!
I am on 2 other forums, and the response is almost instantaneous, and the same with other internet sites.
Only on this site it takes forever to load, to sign in, to reply...
It was good for a few days a couple of weeks back, but it has gone down to a very sssslooowwwwwwww performance last couple of times. Actually, that is the reason behind me not showing up here more often than I do!
Anybody else sees this? or is it just me??
(may be the site has too many links and too cluttered to load quickly, may be a simplified version with faster connection would be better?)

It is running better today but it is still slow. Sometimes the pages load and other times it says "can't find server". Hope this helps

Thanks for the updates. I may just take this thing back to a basic forum, and then work up from there. I will keep the data, just re-install the software with Forum only. Then if all is okay, I will move to add more features.
I just can't seem to find the bottleneck

Maybe you have bandwidth throttling enabled on your server? Maybe it only allows certain number of connections per IP address, or certain throughput? In my case, pages load fast - but every third or so page just hangs. When I try to ping the server, it doesn't respond. After a while, it comes back up. Check network cable and replace the network card in the server. I really like this forum - it would suck if it gets deserted due to hardware problems...

Re: The forum is REAL SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW!
still ungodly slow for me. I also get random "DNS" errors. I can get to www.superhawkforum.com, but when I try to get "into" the forums, https://www.superhawkforum.com/index...165359c6af7b7d I get "Cannot find server or DNS Error"
If I refresh between 3 and 9 times, I get in. Replying to topics causes the same error, have to "reply" 3-9 times. (thank god for cut/paste)

Yeah, I started seeing some slowness a while ago. Pages take a while to load and 404s come up on posting and replying...
It's a bit better today, but still slow loading.

I have had a few problems for a few weeks now. The two biggies are that it loads really slow, and the second is that whenever I click on a link to a topic a get a "cannot find server error" or "page is unavailable"
1st I thought it was my computer but other web pages load ok.
Very frustrating, thats the reason I haven't been on here lately.
Hopefully can be fixed easily.

Re: The forum is REAL SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW!
first of all, let me thank you for all of the effort you are putting into this forum... it is greatly appreciated by all of us! the idea behind this thread was to notify you of a problem, and to try and solve it.
It seems like the site is faster when I use Explorer than it is when I use Firefox. Strange! because most other pages load faster under firefox than explorer.
Also, an uncluttered website (I am not talking basic, but simply uncluttered) may be a great starting point. For example, if all of the various links to smilies/styles/etc. were packaged in another window that the user would manually popup when needed, it would help load the main page a lot faster. Some of the setting options can also be removed and just appear in the user's own setup page.
the user info box on the left is pretty redundant, as I know who I am! the scrolling latest posts is a great idea, but I am not sure what sort of load it puts on the performance of the page.
above were some simple suggestions, that may or may not go well with others on the board, and that is alright.

Switched from IIS 5.0 to Apache 2.0.52.
Also running Dedicated NIC for this IP address.
Still running Dual 800, 768MB Ram, Dual 10K SCSI & Win2K Server.
Currently running a 2 hour Stress-Test... Here is the result with IIS 5.0:
Result Codes
Code Description Count
================================================== ==============================
200 OK 12126
403 Forbidden 934
404 Not Found 48514
Not too good. 80% Failure rate, now I know what you guys have been talking about.... Hope the next test goes better

Re: The forum is REAL SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW!
When I first found this site in late Oct/early Nov I too had problems with slowness and DNS errors.
It is MUCH, MUCH better now. Hopefully, this will create more list traffic. I'm personally doing my best to "stir the pot". As if you can't tell!!!!

Re: The forum is REAL SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW!
Well it sure is running good now ! Woooha 8)
Really made a big difference ........... can I offer a donation to help with costs to keep the Super Hawk ship afloat ?
I don't think it's all that cheap to run a forum like this and I gotta say hats off to Mamisano for the work done .
I mean , he sold his Hawk and still maintains a place for us to gather ! Pretty cool 8)
Thanks for doing this !

Re: The forum is REAL SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW!
Any time guys! I think the real performance increase came from moving from Microsoft IIS Server to Apache... it has been running REAL well since then.
