First set of hardcore twisties.
Going fast in a straight line is lame...... I went for a ride with my pops today and we hit up some twisties. For all you nor cal people it was the back side of Silverado Trail in Napa that leads to lake Berryessa. WOW.... It was freakin great. It felt nice to have to press hard on that beast through the 20mph s curves. Dont know how fast I was going (didnt really look down much) but I was tachen out second and third gear through the tight stuff and up to fourth through the wider turns. Def beats going fast straight any day. I get my need for speed fix without worrying about CHP... Nice. By the way pops rides a FJR 1300 and that **** can move. He is a very experienced rider and still likes to boogie, **** he even picked up the front wheel on his "lux" touring bike.

Right on KC, I also joined BARF but haven't logged on in a while. I don't know if they make leathers big enough for my big ***, or if I really need them. I do work shitty retail hours (that means no weekends off) but if you ever want to ride on a Monday or Tuesday pm me.

The big thing about protective gear is that you need it when you least expect it! A good jacket with armor in it is a good place to start! My buddy who is 6'8" has gear so size is no excuse! I know for a fact, if you go down you would gladly pay me to make the nurse go away who is going to scrub the dirt out of your flesh!!
The guys on BARF are always selling stuff off so that might be a really good place to find cheap but good stuff to buy. I bought my last set of leathers from someone off of BARF.
Unfortunately I am moving to Vegas the first part of Oct so the chance to ride is getting slim. Good luck with the bike and check your tire pressure! 32F 34R would be a good place to start.

You gotta love nor-cal roads.
Be careful. Especially when you start riding with groups of sport riders. Find your pace and stick to it.
Do not hesitate to buy protective gear ASAP!
Enjoy it!

Well, I don't know. Accelerating hard against some boob in a supercharged Mustang, Vette, or turbo Carrera can be a lot of fun.
And while I love the twisties, running twisties against the same cars, especially downhill, can be somewhat dissapointing.

Well hello fellow northbay people.I ride Skaggs almost exclusively, out to the coast and back. It's my playground.I call it the Skaggs TT . Be aware though that apparently the CHP has been patrolling the race track section regulary lately.I haven't seen them, but I hear stories every week.Lake Berryessa isn't CHP free either.Straight line speed is good for a quick fix, but the twistys are tastier.I love NorCal roads, but all ways thought Georgia and the Carolina's might be a good place to ride also...See ya at the bridge

Just got my SH yesterday and I got 130 more on the odometer already. Me and my girlfriend hit up the Appalachian Gap today and it was fun. Its a route over the green mountains that connects central vt to the champlain valley and its mostly just switchbacks, 2nd gear the whole way (1rst for a couple of them).
I was impressed with the hawk off the bat. Steering is definitely not effortless but it is stable. My boots dragged on every corner (my feet we on the shifter and brake not beneath) so even though the pegs arn't as high as on my ninja the thing can definitely get low. Having access to all the torque when your leaned over in a turn can really help you keep the bike in the path you want it. Definitely impressed on that level. The issue of paths through a turn is that I feel like I have to think ahead a lot more on the hawk and initiate earlier. While just ripping through it on an SS is fun I think riding the hawk makes us all ride aggressive turns better.
Didn't scrape and chrome off the pegs though. I did manage to put the wear lines on the tires within 1/16" of the edge though. Maybe when I go back without my girl I'll try draggin knee.
Sounds like all you guys have some killer roads out west and down south too. Good deal, I bet you all get to ride all year long. Its 54 degrees here today and I think the season is winding down. Has anyone dragged foot pegs on their SH? Do those drop ***** hit hard against the asphalt?

If your suspension sag in front is within spec try dropping the front a few mm by raising the legs in the triples... Livens up the steering a bit, but if you have more than prescribed sag you might accidentaly scrape some stainless parts in corners... While the quick steering is fun, stailess on tarmac isn't recommended...
