Finally done (almost)
Bought this bike a couple months back as a fixer upper.
2002 hawk with 2500 miles on her... last registered in 06. Sat in various peoples garage and didn't do much. Wrecked in 06 and "totaled" due to the fairing stay tab breaking off.
I picked her up for 2 much money... but I like the low miles.
new fairing stay, new headlight, new left fairing, new exhaust, remove and plastic weld the rest of the fairings (plastic welding is super easy, and works great) a pair of beetle bags... and some other odds and ends and just about done.
I used RS paints out of England for the paint, and they were awesome, and fast. I messed up by too many color coats on the fairings, so they came out too red and opposed to the sort of day glow red. But I would strogly recommend them for customer service/product/ and price.
I figure it'll be a great Sport touring rig... besides the gas tank capacity.

I always wanted a set of those beetle bags with my last Superhawk in 05, but they were too expensive. I tracked a set down, and I see why they were not so popular.... small, oddly shaped, and not easy to remove.

I gotta say, that is a part I'd really like to have but am unwilling to part with the cash. What would it take to add a section to the OEM tank to increase volume? I've seen work done by Burt Monroe types on making their own tanks and tail sections with hammered aluminum, but that isn't me. I can turn a wrench but making my own tank is over my head.

I actually found it cause I was searching for the build thread from the guy on here who did add a section of metal to the tank and brought it up to almost 6gal. I think (maybe more) But all I found was that tank, so I posted it.
Edit: here is one of them

Go to Little Horse Cycles, I know he's done the mod at what price I don't know but I bet it's far less than $1200. 6 gallons is over 22 liters and put you in the 200+ mile range! Probably a tad top heavy till half full!

I still prefer the givi setup cuz they are interchangeable (any bag will fit) and the pop on & off in under 1.3sec.
So I can put 2 45 liter bags on the side instead of these 22 liters.
But good job adding capacity you your hawk. You will wonder how you lived without it.

I have a feeling the guy has sold a total of zero of those. He;s out of his freakin mind!

maybe a smart guy would build a tank then make a mold and turn out a few fiberglass tanks. Think it would be worth a try?

When I bought my '98 (now sold) years ago it came with a bunch of Kiyo Watanabe carbon parts, including the 6gallon tank. It was cool, but I was just too paranoid to use it much at I was afraid it would rupture in a fall... plus it was mondo $$ so that was a worry too!
